I listened to the "Bronco Nation News", the host BJ RAINS was at the game and told it like it was. He didn't hold back on players, interviews, calling out their 2-18 from three, bad shooting. He laid no blame on Leon RICE, he did nothing to lose the game, challenging comments that RICE blew the game again. He laid blame on the players who missed 21 layups!!! ANDERSON'S turnover, ect. He mention something about BSU'S AD J. DICKEY could be going to U of W and could possibly take RICE with him, but that it's too early still to speculate. I don't know if UDUB has an opening at the AD spot.
A lot of angry Bronco fans, but RAINS mentioned BSU should be better next year with only M. RICE of the starters not coming back. CHIBUZO AGBO, from SD-St. Augustine HS, could declare for the draft. RICE looked devastated in his after game interview.

Coaching and winning at Boise is not easy. Getting top recruits to want to play in Boise is a challenge. Getting OOC teams to play at Boise is a challenge.
Yet Leon rice has got them to the ncaa tournament 5 times (when prior to Rice they had gone a total of 4 times). To make the tournament with the challenges of coaching at Boise is not easy. To get a decent seed or to win is more challenging.
I feel for the first 85% of the game Boise played better than Colorado. Some bad luck, some good luck for Colorado, some uneven refereeing (before Colorado started intentionally fouling I believe it was 8 to 2 (and I believe one of the 2 was the T)). My issue is at crunch time BSUchoked. So they deserved to have lost, but certainly things were not going their way prior to that choke.
Regardless Rice is a good coach. He has to be in order to get Boise to MM 5 times.

Fish changed the culture, went on the road, won some tough games, put us on the map.... the rest is history. My point is Boise needs to go play some tough road games and prove they belong. Go win some meaningful road games and get some tough exposure and difficult environments. I am not looking because I don't care enough.... what was the toughest non-conference team the Donkies played on the road or at home?

We don’t know that Rice isn’t trying to schedule tougher road games vs P5s and blue chips. It’s not easy to get on big time programs schedules. Now they all want to play each other in OOC in holiday tournaments and special neutral site games/events … huge $$$ and they don’t get punished if they lose those. If the big time schools play Boise State at home and lose … it might be a bad loss. Not worth the risk. It’s not easy for us to get those games, Dutcher talks about it.

If Leon Rice isn’t a good coach why has he beat us 6 out of the last 7?
The MW teams don’t do well in the tournament because they aren’t built like the need to be.

If Washington St Kyle Smith leaves. Which starting to look like it after the last interview talking about a extension. Also add Sprinkle is the front runner for the Washington Job. Rice would the number one on their list at WSU.

Are you seriously trying to compare recruiting to San Diego compared to recruiting to Boise? San Diego is a world wide travel destination. Has perhaps the best climate in the US. Boise is a nice city, but it is no San Diego. Getting teams to play in Boise is a challenge due to the elevation, travel challenges especially in the winter when OOS is occurring. We got lucky when fisher chose to come here. I was in my masters program when he came here. I thought he was coming here to go through the motions and retire as I could not see any reason why a notational champ basketball coach would want to come here to coach basketball. Our team was near all time low. He came here and did a lot more than go through the motions. He built the program into a very good program. The Kathi team was national champ caliber. It was a miracle job, but he was recruiting kids to play in San Diego. He was trying to get OOS teams to come to San Diego in the winter for what initially was pretty easy wins. Compare this to Boise. Leon rice is a good coach. BSU choked late which was unfortunate. Go Aztecs. Go MWC.

Is a good coach myth please. Now he’s 0-10 in the tournament. Gets lucky in the MWC but can’t make shots when it counts. So over people comparing Dutch to this steaming pile! Boise State is 0-10 in the Tournament, Leon is "just" 0-5. In 4 of his 5 games, they've been the worse seed, two 10s, an 11 and a 13. When they were an 8, they lost to a #9 Memphis. I don't like his style but I think he's a pretty good coach. They've beaten us 6 of the last 7 times they played us. That has to mean something. 3 of his 5 games were playin games, so they weren't the worse seed in those game. Under Rice, they've actually only been the underdog seed one time and that was a 10 v 7 matchup which is pretty close to even. * 13 seed vs 13 seed LaSalle * 11 seed vs 11 seed Dayton * 8 seed vs 9 seed Memphis * 10 seed vs 7 seed Northwestern * 10 seed vs 10 seed Colorado Definitely some winnable games there. I do think bad luck is a huge factor, but his resume in the tournament is not good.

I think the refs we see in conference are a detriment to all teams other than SDSU. The other MWC teams rely on a lot of BS calls and come tournament time, they flame out because they get higher rated refs that let them play and do not buy their flops. Dave Hall, Eric Curry and Randy McCall should be banned from all MWC games. Each one is a clown and should start collecting their social security checks.

This is spot on, you can add Verne Harris to that ref list also. I am so tired of Eric Curry and Randy McCall in particular, why do they seemingly officiate so many of our games? Both are absolute garbage as is Dave Hall as you mentioned. I said before the tourney started that MWC Teams would struggle without the usual suspects calling the games. Boise State shot 6 free throws in their tournament game after shooting 3 times that many in both of their games this year vs. SDSU, that team in particular baits the MWC Ref Crews into endless bad calls on acting and flops.

It astounds me that people who probably NEVER PLAYED basketball beyond a church recreational league can criticize a coach who has been, by most standards, successful at the Div 1 level.

Pretty sure Eric Curry, Dave Hall, etc do PAC games and potentially other conferences as well. There is no way they are that much worse than other refs, I think biases are showing.
Free throw disparity is a good place to start but you have to watch the games. Boise state played soft as hell in that game and was shying away from contact the entire time. They didn't deserve any more calls than they got

BSU has a lot of money to use for their athletic programs - be it from the Football Deal or their corporate sponsors from a few of the surrounding states
Their two major teams keep showing up in both football and basketball
Rice seems to be able to add some decent players - will it continue ?

If they got rid of Rice, they would risk what's happening at Utah St. Anytime someone comes in and has success they immediately bolt. I think the smarter move is to keep him and slowly keep building and tourney wins will come.

I think the smarter move is to keep him and slowly keep building and tourney wins will come. Agree. My point in starting the thread was not to say he is a bad coach, not good for the MWC, or not fit to coach at Boise St. but to refute that his offense is so much better than Dutcher's offense. People on here complain about the freedom Dutcher gives his players if they play good hard defense. They act like there is no structure. I believe when he states that he gives them freedom he's really saying he doesn't want them to hesitate when they have a good open shot from three. That's the way it should be and I believe he gets a lot of credit for getting Saunders, Butler, and Trammel out of their funks by not having to look at the bench when they miss. Hopefully he can find the secret sauce to get Waters and Parrish going against UCONN. GO AZTECS!
