Has anyone put a tape measure up to BJ Davis? He has to be the smallest, thinnest, skinniest 6"2" player I have ever seen. I understand he is a true freshman but when he has the ball in his hands he looks like an undersized HIGH SCHOOL freshman, he makes Miles Byrd look like Jaedon LeDee. This team needs to get some size for next year (Height and Weight), they just got pushed around way too much. Remember DJ Gay when he was a freshman? I bet BJ’s got 10 or 15 on him at the same point in their lives. He’ll get stronger and fill out, just like DJ did. Time to offer Jaeden LeDee a short-term strength and conditioning role, before his NBA career starts. The Twin Towers, Bird, and Davis are on the thin side. Heide could use some upper-body strength.

Nice to get a kid that would be around for 2 or 3 years. Those who can contribute year 1 are really helpful but with our complex D most seem to do even better the second year. I am hoping that is the case with Waters second year and being healthy I think he is going to have a really good season next year.

It takes a special person to pursue what LeDee did. The question is do these players have it?

Here is an initial list of players testing the draft waters. Dominick Harris (Zags/LMU) linked to the Aztecs.
Malik Dia, F, Belmont (sophomore) Frankie Fidler, F, Omaha (junior) BJ Freeman, G, Milwaukee (junior) Keyshawn Hall, G, George Mason (sophomore) Dominick Harris, G, Loyola Marymount (junior) Zeke Mayo, G, South Dakota State (junior) AJ Storr, G/F, Wisconsin (sophomore) Adou Thiero, G, Kentucky (sophomore)
After starting his career as a reserve at Gonzaga due to strong competition in the guard position, Harris hit his stride at Loyola Marymount. In the 2023-24 season, he showed off his talent by averaging 14.3 points while shooting an impressive 44.8% from beyond the 3-point arc. At 6-3, Harris is worth a shot for any high-major school including the Aztecs looking to bolster their backcourt players. Anxiously await Butler, Parrish, and Waters' next steps.
Note: FYI some of these players may also be transferring to new schools.

At 6’4” and 190 lbs, Miles Uzan, a dynamic point guard who initially was recruited by SDSU but committed to Oklahoma University, has entered the transfer portal. Uzan's impressive size and agility make him a formidable presence on the court. Originally from Las Vegas, he caught the eye of our staff two years ago, with his potential and skill set. He could emerge as an exciting prospect to elevate the Aztec offense, offering a valuable addition to our roster.

Christian Tucker, a former walk-on for UTSA, has entered the transfer portal. He is 6'3" and weighs 178 lbs, played as a point guard for Gilbert Perry High School in Arizona before joining UTSA. This season, Tucker's shooting percentages were 41% from the field, 31% from beyond the arc, and 87% from the free-throw line. He also contributed an average of 3 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 11.3 points per game.
It's worth noting that the San Diego State Aztecs are among the teams interested in recruiting Tucker. Keep an eye on his transfer process as he evaluates his options. Other schools include UCLA, CAL, Nevada, Wyoming, Temple, Loyola (Chi), Stanford, NMSU, UCSB, Mid Tenn, No AZ, Incarnate Word and Longwood.

Heide could use some upper-body strength. And an offensive game. And better handles. And less fouls. And better from the line.

Check out this intriguing prospect for the Aztecs in the 2024/25 season: Xavier DuSell, a sharpshooting guard who has previously played for Wyoming and Fresno State. Initially committing to Northern Colorado over several other schools including UTEP, New Mexico, Montana, Northern Arizona, UW-Milwaukee, and Idaho State, DuSell is now in the transfer portal and has garnered interest from a variety of programs.
Standing at 6'4", DuSell has impressive statistics from last season, averaging 11.5 points per game, along with 2.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists. His shooting percentages are also noteworthy, hitting 42% from the field, 40% from beyond the arc, and 83% from the free-throw line.
Several notable schools, including San Diego State, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Colorado State, Nevada, Cal, Oregon State, Utah State, and Cincinnati, have expressed interest in recruiting him.
Do we take a 2-for-1 with Coach Hut & DuSell?

ANYONE HAVE SOME REAL INSIGHT?

We need shooting, and we will have scholarships one way or another (based on the zeigler article my guess is waters returns but demarshay/parrish/butler do not). Dusell would fit a need, he wouldn't be the only guard to add, but as a second guard transfer I am in)

Excellent role player type.

If Butler doesn’t come back we need a PG. What we’ve learned is we need a guy 6’2 and above who can play defense and can score on all 3 levels.
If Parrish doesn’t return, we need a guy who can score more consistently and get to the foul line.
With Alger not returning on scholarship, we need a big man. We need a guy with some muscle on him that can start because Heide is not ready, Gwath is a 4 and Saunders can’t play the 5.
If Johnson doesn’t return we need a veteran guard who can score, shoot over 40% from 3 and over 80% from the line.
I like the core of Davis, Waters, Byrd, Saunders, Heide and Gwath. I’m not expecting the incoming freshman to offer much up for the season and that’s where we need to fill the holes. PG, shooting, shot blocking and rebounding.

There is 1 player in the final 4 that fits your guard qualifier. There are less than 10 in all of cbb

A PG who scores but not efficiently is not a guy we need, a 5’10 guard who can’t score in the paint and can’t guard high major guards is not what we need, to bring in a shooter along with his HC who coaches defense which is what DV already does is not what we need. What we’ve learned over the years is guys that are in the media about who’s contacting them are probably guys we really aren’t after as our top targets.
