Hopefully Soto can start providing more than a .745 OPS.
Good, not what we’re banking on.

Guess it's a good thing then that Fernando returns Thursday after hitting three home runs last night and tying a franchise record for El Paso with eight RBI. Didn't Tatis tie the record held by-gulp-Austin Hedges? Lol.

It's still very early. I'll worry about their overall performance at the All Star Break. Too many ups and downs until then, unless they all of a sudden get 10 games behind near that time frame. And I generally agree with the idea that it is VERY early still, however... It's just damned odd that they're not hitting the way they should be, and we're heading towards 10% of the season being done. Bogaerts is killing it. Kim is doing well. Machado is doing well. But... where's everyone else? Soto?? Grisham starts to look like he found his swing, and then he goes into the tank for a game or two. Have we been to the Crone zone yet? Is it possibly the hitting coach? With that many guys underperforming I would think that's certainly a possibility. We're officially in the Crone Zone. Two bombs today!!!

Padres kick butt today. Great to see. Having said that, I'm sitting here imagining Tatis in the lineup instead of Azocar. Azocar has been less than stellar at the plate, to say the least. I'm just hoping Tatis doesn't blow it too much in the outfield. I can't wait for his bat in the lineup, over Azocars.

Azocar only plays usually as a defensive replacement and he's on the wrong side of the platoon. Today was just a day off I'm guessing. Engel starts his rehab assignment soon, so decisions will be made.

Simply said, I can't wait to replace Tatis in right with either of those guys. Grisham has been playing very well.

Tatis homered in his first plate appearance tonight in what will likely be his final game with El Paso, if the pattern holds. Fourth home run in his last six plate appearances. Absolutely destroyed.

So since he's being pulled from his assignment tomorrow, the team let him play back to back games. Fernando just homered....again. He's just 10-11 with six home runs now.

Lose two of three to the Mets and now three of four to the Brewers, get shut out, what else can happen. Time for a big turnaround… but they've had some bad luck historically with the D'bags. Hope they get some extra BP in today.
Keep grinding , LA is doing no better. Freddie Freeloader took home a Golden Sombrero yesterday and Moochie was only slightly better. They are the Muchacho/Scroto of the Doggers. None of them earning their keep right now. They all will…but how soon? Their teams need them sooner rather than later.

I love the PCL retro uniforms!
Much better than the gaudy pink and yellow.

I love the PCL retro uniforms! Much better than the gaudy pink and yellow. And roughly two hours later the weak hitting Padres (and their sharp retro unis) get shut out by the Atlanta Braves, 2-0.

Too bad they couldn't channel the "old Padres" and play more like the winners of yesteryear…
Another shutout. Simply unacceptable for many fans, but every team is going to get shutout a certain number of times every year. Hopefully this team won't see another one for awhile.
What needs to happen is a bit of a shakeup in the line up, and that's coming in just a few more days.
Hang in there!

We've had quite the challenging schedule to start the season with. I would be happy if we were 10-8 instead of 8-10. But the sky isn't falling. We get Musgrove back, Tatis back, we will get back on track.

Another tough night at the ballpark - especially for Padres hitters and their "relief" pitchers aka arsonists. The power outage is affecting them, too.
Crismatt has no business in the majors right now - 9 ER in 8 IP is not going to get the job done. Knehr didn't do any better - and probably won't. Both will be perpetual AAAA players. Eating innings by shitting homers is no way to run a relief staff.
Yeah, it's early. Many things will change.

Hope he can turn it around real quick like.

Crismatt being out of options puts him perilously close to DFA territory. I can't imagine he survives much longer without significant improvement, there's just no way to hide in a seven man bullpen. The Odor experience needs to end, while we're at it. Not an outfielder, nowhere to play on the infield. Fernando's return should bump him off the active roster, but he might stick until Dahl's return in a few weeks. Once this hellacious stretch of games ends, I would expect them to go to a five man rotation and bump someone to the bullpen.

worst part about the padres isnt their pitching, its their over-paid lineup of similar type hitters. our advance scouting continues to suck, and our hitters are not adjusting to what is coming at them. 1 run in 3 games for this lineup? unacceptable.
