Did you just post a list of a bunch of (mostly) random guys who had poor hitting stats over the years? Interesting approach. I haven't heard of 4 or 5 of those guys, LOL. To me, this is the first time I can recall where I am taking the Padres rebuild seriously. It's also the first time I can recall where the national media and scouting market is rating them as the top, or at least Top 3 anywhere you look as far as a farm system rating. Which should give any fan hope and some credibility. If the Padres are not in the playoffs by 2021 (and contending for a spot in 2020), I will consider the rebuild a failure. Which is the logical and rational course to take, given the growth of the farm system. I mean lumping a guy like Luis Urias into a list like that is beyond ridiculous. It’s not a top prospects list. It’s a list of players from the Padres farm system over the past two years who have been promoted and didn’t hit, the steady stream referenced from an earlier post. Hey, the bottom line is the Padres can hire who they want.

It's a list of a ton of non-prospect types who haven't had success really anywhere and has basically zero merit.

It would appear there was a reason(s) why other organizations let these players go.

Of that entire list, only Urias and Cordero were signed by the Padres. Torrens and Cordoba were Rule V's from other organizations and Asauje was a throw-in from Boston in the Kimbrel deal. The rest are journeymen, AAAA types that couldn't stick anywhere.

I will concede that point if you recognize that the Padre system was unable to coach them up after they signed these guys in the first place. So, they couldn’t recognize the talent AND failed to develop these players. And you still want to promote from within?

Year after year, different GM's, different managers, different players, same results.
Isn't it just possible that the system is rigged in favor of the big market, big money teams?
Nah, that's crazy talk. The big boys don't want the bottom 10 teams to act as glorified AAAA teams for the rest of the league. Not at all...

Yeah, those big market teams in Atlanta, Milwaukee, Colorado, Oakland and Houston really showed up. Oh...wait.

So...Johnny Washington is the new Padres hitting coach? I thought Morgan Burkhart was coming up from AAA?

It might provide a few sparks of motivation if the Padres now dumped a few roster guys with low batting averages and high strikeout/bad ball chasing habits.
When the players can see that not being smart, and not doing what the coaches are telling them to do in the batters box, can lead to getting an opportunity to be playing some where else, they may be more receptive to coaching. Consequences need to be in sight for some guys.
The improvement shown by Reyes this year demonstrates what can happen when a player really listens to his hitting coaches. Reckless free swingers should be made available to other teams, so that Padre pitchers can feast upon them.

Raffy Lopez traded, Greg Garcia picked up off waivers from St. Louis. Local kid. Think this spells the end of the Galvis dilemma.

Buddy Reed is 4th in the Fall League in batting (.368), and Peoria has already clinched their spot in the championship game on 11/17.

I've talked to Buddy a few times online - Good player, better person. Really has potential if the hit tool takes a step forward.

I don't take the AFL for much - It's good and bad with players coming off long seasons. Next season with a full year as you mentioned will be telling. We are about to see a flurry of activity here soon. 40 man rosters need to be set by November 20th.

Have seen that many times (have missed the Fall League in person only 3 years since it began), but I really think it helped Reed this year. By the way--the field in Amarillo is coming along nicely. They have almost finished laying sod--in fact, they are laying it as I type this.

Laying sod....for the Sod Poodles? What's the name of the franchise going to be?
