Laying sod....for the Sod Poodles? What's the name of the franchise going to be? Being announced next Tuesday. Going to be tough to beat Fayetteville's nickname--the Woodpeckers. "Let's go Peckers. clap--clap--clap-clap-clap."

Yes I know - I wanted a prediction. Lol. Going to be laughed at I'm sure by outsiders, but who cares.

Raffy Lopez traded, Greg Garcia picked up off waivers from St. Louis. Local kid. Think this spells the end of the Galvis dilemma. A lifetime.240 hitter with no power and little speed. This is who they are supplanting Galvis with? Headley part two, Petco is going to eat him alive.

I'll dumb it down a bit and expound - They are replacing a .248 hitter who would cost 8 million plus on the open market with a versatile bench guy who had multiple seasons of really good OBP's. Garcia isn't going to be the starting shortstop, but he can shift around the infield and cover at least 2 or 3 spots, making the trio of Spangenberg/Asauje/Pirela expendable. So, you open up a roster spot (or two or three) and Garcia's going to cost less than a quarter of what Galvis would command on a multi-year deal.

The starting shortstop is of course going to be Fernando Tatis Jr. by midseason, so it makes no sense to pay Galvis what he's going to get on the open market. Garcia's the type of bench player we should be targeting - Solid defender, good plate discipline and positional versatility.

I’m all for trimming payroll, but there has to be a better option than this guy. No need to “dumb down” anything Shecky, just leave your opinion without the snark.

Would love to know the rationale behind "Garcia is going to hit .165 in Petco." He's going to be a bench bat and a plus defender, not a guy who's going to get 450 or 500 AB's. He's actually forecasted for more WAR than 3 or 4 starting shortstops.

I watched him for a few games when Paul DeJong got injured and Garcia got some extra abs. He has zero power and no speed, he makes his living with his defense. I could be wrong, but I think he will struggle to hit his weight in Petco. Hopefully Tatis is fully recovered and ready to go.

So you watched him for a few games and determined he's going to hit .165. Okay. Well, I can pretty much guarantee that won't happen. Tatis is likely up by June as it is, but it's a little ironic that Galvis and Garcia are essentially the same profile.

He will be a placeholder for Tatis for a few months at a cost roughly 1/3 of what Galvis made last year. I have no problem with Garcia being here--as long as Tatis comes up soon.

I don't even think Garcia is the opening day shortstop.....yet.
