Right handed pitcher, Lake Elsinore. 22 year old who had Tommy John and missed 20 months in between starts. Traded for Fernando Rodney. In 3 starts since returning from surgery - 16 innings, 8 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 26 strikeouts. Double plus changeup, fastball 90-95, developing curveball, potentially elite command and control. Struck out 10 last night including the side in the 5th and 6th. Only needed 83 pitches.

5 2/3 tonight, 2 hits, 1 walk, 0 runs, 10 strikeouts. He's on a pretty strict pitch count (I thought they would give him a chance to finish the 6th) but this kid is unbelievable right now. 21 2/3 innings so far, only 10 hits allowed, 2 walks and 36 strikeouts. Not a typo, I swear.

All good things must end, including Paddack's scoreless streak. 25 innings. Gave up 3 runs so far against a talented Lancaster team (Colorado's High A club). ERA skyrockets to 1.05.

You're correct. As is Colton Welker, the Rockies 3rd ranked prospect, Forrest Wall (#16) and Tyler Nevin (Son of Phil) who didn't play last night. Paddack had one human-like inning, but showed an ability to succeed under pressure. Gave up a first pitch leadoff double, runner got to 3rd on a passed ball on a bunt attempt with 0 outs. He struck out the first two, then got a lazy ball hit to left for the third out. He actually hit a batter for the first time all season. Still managed to strikeout 7 in 5 innings.

The Lancaster Jethawks--first in team batting, and last in team ERA. The joys of playing in the high desert.

An article on Fangraphs today quoted a talent evaluator as saying "Paddack could be one of the two or three best right-handed pitchers in the minors right now, on par with Michael Kopech." Kopech is a consensus top 20-25 prospect in baseball.

Paddack didn't have his best stuff tonight.....and still struck out 9 in 5 innings. He walked his third batter of the season tonight while notching his 70th strikeout.

Paddock was dominating before the surgery. He is no fluke. When the Padres traded for him he was on a current 15 inning no hit streak, in low A at 20 years old. His career ERA in the minors is 1.66.
Career stats 1.66 ERA 125 INNINGS 171 Ks 14 BBs 0.77 WHIP
WOW!!!

His stuff is good enough to dominate low/high A hitters. He needs to develop the curveball to raise his ceiling. It's a very fringy pitch at the moment, partially because he never has to throw it. I would be in no hurry to rush him to AA.

I made the trip to watch Morejon pitch. I feel a Paddock trip coming on.

You might have gone to see Morejon tonight. 5 innings, 1 hit, 1 run (On a strikeout wild pitch)....ELEVEN strikeouts so far on 76 pitches.

Took the loss last night as well because the Storm couldn't manage any offense. Ended up giving 2 runs and striking out 12. I would be shocked if he didn't see AA by the end of the year.

The starting 5 for Lake Elsinore could all see big league careers. They are all below league average age. Some by quite a bit.
Michael Baez Signed from Cuba for $3m in 2016 as a 20 year old. 2.79 in 10 starts. Age: 22.149 Reggie Lawson is surprising everyone with a great first half (2nd round 2016). 2.61 in 11 starts. Age: 20.321 Adrian Morejon. A Cuba signee. 3.59 ERA in 11 starts is great considering he is 4.3 years younger than the average Cal League player at 19.112. Chris Paddack Age:22.162 1.91 ERA in 8 starts. Pedro Avila 4.08 in 11 starts Age: 21.156 (from Washington for Derek Norris in 2016)

This Paddack kid has been killing it, hard not to get excited about what you see here. Seems to be a solid find.

As crazy as Paddack has been, I'm more excited about Adrian Morejon. He's already hit 99 on the radar gun as a 19 year old with really good potential for his secondary pitches to be above average. He's got a knuckle change, a splitter grip change and a curveball. Obviously, Paddack will grab the headlines, but that rotation is absolutely stacked.

Morejon and Mackenzie Gore are separated by 3 days in age. That's pretty crazy.

Paddack was 1 of 7 named all-stars from the Storm for the Cal League ASG. Lawson (1 run allowed and the loss) and Ashbeck (3 runs allowed) pitched, while Morejon and Paddack didn't play. Potts was 1 for 3, Reed was 0-4 and Olivares was 1-2. Fully half of the South's 4 hits, in the 8-1 drubbing by the North The North had 18 hits.
