I did the same thing. Wash post, la times, no thanks. Actually Washington Times...very different source from the Post (and very biased). But common mistake. I chuckle every time someone uses the Washington Times to prove their point.

So the American flag represents only the interests of military activities overseas and any disrespect shown to it is a de facto disrespect of our nation's military? I don't get it. Seriously, I don't. I thought those people died to protect our freedoms, including our first amendment rights -- rights that may or may not include making a political protest in front of the starts and stripes. Not limited to, but includes. Sometimes the big picture is important. BTW not saying they can't protest, just saying they shouldn't in this fashion.Anyway, I will leave it at that (until I see the thread in the political form). Go Aztecs! So freedom of speech, but only in certain circumstances?

Very proud of this very classy men's basketball program tonight. In the midst of all the national anthem protests among athletes the past couple of months, our players and coaches stood, mixed in together and linked arms. Black/white, old/young. A great show of solidarity far more meaningful than sitting off by yourself. Without getting too preachy, unity is the only way we're going to solve some of these problems our society is having. The Aztecs showed how that works. Good job, players and coaches. (and, yeah, the game and the dancing kid were great, too) I would be unable to support the program if the players made any sort of political statement during the National Anthem. Not that I am against political action, rather because the issue many are protesting is a manufactured one. lol @ manufactured issue. I'm sure you'd say the same exact thing about the Civil Rights protests of the 60s.

I too am proud of our guys. I would have been equally as proud of one or all of them if they had chosen to sit during the national anthem in protest of the systemic racial inequality that our country is steeped in. Yawn... Another Kapernut nut hugger. A sporting event is NOT the venue to voice your political KaperNUT nut hugging views. If you want to do that crap march on the street and hope a real american doesn't run your ass over. Secondly where is the best carne asada burrito in North County? Try the barrel in Escondido on Broadway south of Lincoln. Aww...someone is butthurt his view supporting police brutatily isn't voiced during a sporting event.

Nobody has cared to take an hour out of their day to read the statistics I posted earlier in this threat? Figures. Here's one you ignored in your pile of garbage While only 6% of the population, black males represent 40% of all unarmed people shot by cops...you know the issue Kaepernick is protesting police brutality against minorities especially black people? That piece of data is a huge reason why. Also the fact most of those shooters see a paid vacation instead of a jail cell

Fanhood - Didn't read your links, but just browsing the sources tells me what they contain. I prefer unbiased analysis of the issues.

So freedom of speech, but only in certain circumstances? Freedom of Speech is freedom from government oppression,, not freedom from consequences based on the opinions of other individuals. To the best of my knowledge, no governmental entity has restricted any athletes ability to behave a certain way during the National Anthem at a sporting event. An individual has every right to express their opinions free from governmental oppression. However, other individuals have every right to protest that speech with their own legal actions.
