There is something to remember about Skylar that I do not think shows up in the stat sheet , for many good defenders who play the 5 . How many times was he in the lane and forced opponents to adjust their shot and miss a shot that would have been an easy lay up ? Or forced opponent to pass the ball out , or shot clock violation ? Do not think there is a stat for that ? Can you imagine his stats if we had played more Zone D ?
Many thought when Josh came here he would continue to be a double / double guy . He was a very good rebounder and defender but not the scorer/shooter some of us had hoped for . Yes he had 7.7 points per game but took even more shots then JJ , he took 231 shots, most near the basket or follow ups for points and made 105. 45% , also 47% FT (,similar to Skylar) - He was very good on defense and excellent on the boards both defensively and getting most of his points on put backs .
Skylar was brought in to be a great defender , he did that .

Josh was a very good player at SDSU . but mostly rebounding about 10 a game and did play solid D . Some of his offensive stats 7.7 ppg , 45 FG% all 2 point shots mostly near the basket . 47 FT% . And despite those modest numbers, Davis made as many field goals in his senior year on the Mesa as Spencer did in his final two years combined. Given how inefficient he was that's not a thing in Davis's favor

Skylar's offensive deficiencies allowed opposing teams to cheat and keep the driving lanes clogged. His issues directly impacted his teammates abilities to score and that doesn't show up in the box score either.

there was no surprise for the Aztec coaches they knew Skylar was very good on defense and not very good on offense . Game plan was to use him for the high ball screen , if their 5 left him alone then he was open for a slam . He did show some slight improvement this past year on offense . He also had very little confidence in his FT shooting( finally switched to right handed this year) so did not really want the ball . Bottom line he was a very good defensive player that really helped our D .
But believe this post should be about Izundu . A 5 that wants to come play here at SDSU and could provide what the 2016 team needs the most D , rebounding and experience (against P5 teams ) . Would guess the Aztecs coaches will wait to see how this plays out before they pursue more guys that can play the 5 , also not sure what are the other options for 2016 ?

Given how inefficient he was that's not a thing in Davis's favor I know his FG% was low, but I don't think he was a terribly inefficient scorer. Seemed like half the time he missed he got his own rebound.

Given how inefficient he was that's not a thing in Davis's favor I know his FG% was low, but I don't think he was a terribly inefficient scorer. Seemed like half the time he missed he got his own rebound. He had a 45.5 TS%, that is terrible and he rebound other players misses too. Not saying he was bad by any means, his defensive versatility and rebounding was very valuable, I expected more offensively though.

1. Izundu wants to play for SDSU - do not see a long line
2. He plays the 5 , likes to play D and rebound - two major needs of the 2016 team
3. has experience in a P5 conference
4. has a GPA that can help the team

Cons:
7. He is on lock-down by WSU
8. Might not ever play for SDSU
9. End of story...

And despite those modest numbers, Davis made as many field goals in his senior year on the Mesa as Spencer did in his final two years combined. Given how inefficient he was that's not a thing in Davis's favor If Spencer attempted 36 more shots in his final two seasons and missed all of them and missed an additional 5 shots that he did make, then Josh Davis and Skylar would have the same FG/FGA. The difference between Josh Davis and Skylar Spencer (in his final season) was: 45 Field goals 130 Attempts Who would want Skylar to take 130 extra shots, if he would only shoot 34.6% in those 130 attempts? Taking a lot of shots is a good thing only if you actually score sufficiently to make it a positive. The difference in offensive rebounds didn't make up for the difference in shooting. If Skylar had as many offensive rebounds per minutes as Josh Davis, he would only have pulled down 8 or 9 more offensive rebounds. Even if we give those 8 or 9 putbacks to Josh, it doesn't nearly mitigate the difference in shooting percentage.

Look at the difference in rebounding.

11pgs for a guy that we are unsure will ever play for us? We need lives...... Meh. There's a lot going on within this thread that makes it worthy: the debate about whether or not he's a good fit; a coach holding a player hostage; a team/coach/school saying SDSU broke NCAA recruiting rules. Each of those topics is worth 3+ pages alone.
I just hope Page 12 includes a few posts about Kent freeing Izundu & Page 13 is about him committing to SDSU.

He will help us, IF he is ever set free to choose SDSU. I'm keeping my fingers crossed......if not pg13, maybe 17or18

No matter the outcome, the reaction of Dirty Ernie Kent makes him a real arsehole! Ernie will forever be a bag of douche in AZTEC hearts! He, Lee Corso and Gary Parrish should don sunglasses, big floppy hats and raincoats cloaking their miserable identities and hiding from the wrath of SDSU fans if and when they visit America's Finest City! Go sh%t in your hat Ernie!
