We recruited Watson early but never offered, he wanted to come to SDSU.

FYI, I am updating the original post as guys come off/on the radar. link Watson seems like a quality target even if he is at a position of strength. Never hurts to add more talent/scoring.

Re: Watson, he played 2 years at USF and averaged 34 minutes this last year (maybe he wants to play LESS?). He'll have to sit a year, then he'd be eligible so both he and Hemsley could conceivably share PG duties as juniors. Can both of these guys play on the court at the same time?

Talent can ALWAYS play with talent, regardless of their position. Hemsley can easily slide to the #2, Kell to the #3, etc. There isn't a guy on our roster who can't play 2 spots.
That said, does seems like an odd fit. I'd rather see a FR PG who's 2 years behind Hemsley than someone who'd eventually be in the same class. Like you said, he'd go from 34 minutes to maybe 24 at best, but maybe it's worth it to him to play at home? I just wouldn't want to see him at Nevada or FSU either.
Definitely cannot see us adding Watson & Kasongo at the same time. One or the other with a Grad transfer/FR, sure, but not both.

Clearly a scorer @ 20+ PPG. How is he on assists, rebounds, steals and as a defender?

I think they could play at the same time -- Hemsley sliding to the 2. And you'd still have Kell there so in theory you could play them all ~27 minutes/game and maybe more if you went to a 3 guard line-up in stretches. I think ideally you'd have a freshman PG to groom that year instead of having another junior. If we'd get Watson, I would think that'd make it tough to get top PG's (i.e. PoPoola) as they'd have to wait 2 years to get meaningful minutes at PG. Ideally we get a stud PG in the 17 class, but if the staff isn't feeling great about our chances with top PG targets I have no issue signing up talent and adding PG of the future later.

Clearly a scorer @ 20+ PPG. How is he on assists, rebounds, steals and as a defender? I think a kids defensive skills are often a product of the program he's playing in, and I'm not sure USF ever made D' a priority. But he's quick & athletic, so with a year to RS in the right system I'd expect him to become a decent defender.
He'd probably become the best passer on our team instantly, and he can draw fouls with the best of them.
He's 6'1 with padding in his shoes, and was the guy leaking out to start the break, so rebounding probably hasn't been a big part of his arsenal. His defensive rebounding % was very similar to Hemsley's though, if that means anything.
Even with his talent there has to be a fit, but maybe they see Watson/Hemsley as THE backcourt in 2019 and maybe that's OK with Watson?
For some reason I see FSU being a good fit with him.

We lose Allen and shrigley after this opening up a ton of minutes at guard. He should get 25+ minutes off the bench giving us scoring and ball handling. Take him in a heartbeat. He avg 5 assists per game last year.

Defense is a lot more than just system (not saying system does not matter), individuald capability does matter and the fact that he has 0 career blocks tells me this guy has little hops and doesn't close out well.

CAL's two super freshmen last year could be lottery pick or at least first round guys . But nothing is definite until they make final decision. about NBA. Is the investigation about their former assistant still going on , that left for Reno? Also lost their very good senior guard . So they could need a lot of help and quickly.

I'd take a combination of Izundu & Watson, if he decides to come here. Not bad considering we weren't "in the news" and "haven't offered anyone" not too long ago, per some.

interesting all those that were clamoring for the Aztecs call and make offers to all the transfers out there . Better to quietly do your home work and know who is interested in the Aztecs . Have the recruit make the initial contact , If there is no interest by the recruit then why waste their time or the coaches . ? Just to post all those available .

I would say, most of the attention on recruiting is on the HS class of 2017-18. 4 offers last weekend after the Nike EBYL with all 4 coaches in Indianapolis. I think Fisher likes this team, adds 4 guys: Nolan - PF 6'9 , Teki - Wing 6'6, Max Combo - F 6'8 and McD - PF 6'10. Izundo would be icing on the cake. If Malik turns pro, then I bet we will see a greater level of activity. There doesn't seam to be a rush in the transfer market.

I know us fans are clamoring for a center (someone bigger and taller than Nolan)...but I think the main reason we had bad offense the past 4 years is because of Sky's limited offensive ability granted he was a beast on defense. Fisher had to adjust and make due with what he had which was a offensively challenged Sky and Chol, plus the slow starts by Pope and Kell. I think what the coaching stay may see is Nolan can stretch the floor and play faster than Sky and have more of an offensive game. Naturally, there will be a drop off in interior defense but I think the other players will make up for it. I think we will have a better offense this upcoming season and we'll be pretty successful as long as our defense isn't that big of a drop off, particular in transition D.
