I know there is another thread with transfers, but 95% of those have nothing to do with the Aztecs and for those only concerned with someone actually linked to SDSU, I am starting a new thread for only transfers linked to SDSU. Here are the players that have been reported: Chris Reyes -- 6'7" PF, Utah Stats Committed to Pepperdine.Ray Kasongo -- 6'9" PF, Tennessee StatsDevin Watson -- 6'1" PG, San Francisco Stats

Good thread, thanks for the updates.
Don't know much about Kasongo but looks like he was a 3rd string center (as a soph) and didn't play much. Seems unlikely that Fisher would lock up a scholarship for this D1 transfer.
Reyes didn't play much either, but looks like a good rebounder. More likely as he would only take up scholarship this season.

Interesting - hadn't heard about Reyes. Utah uses him more as a 5, despite his lack of height. Plays "bigger"; could definitely bang with any 6'9 kid. Solid rebounder, but doesn't give us a rim protector (will need Z & Pope to take care of that).
Good thread - cleaner.
PS. What I do like about Reyes is he's a Grad transfer who could play right away.

I actually like what I see from Reyes... Tim Shelton like body, can bang and play with bigger opponents. Shelton was not a rim protector (aside from drawing charges) but he was GREAT at keeping bigs off the block and away from their comfort zone.
Here is a video from Reyes from his JUCO year, where he earned 1st Team all-state honors while averaging 18 ppg and 12 rpg.
He uses his body very well down low. Not very athletic but could be serviceable and honestly better around the rim than just about anyone we have had in quite a while, offensively.

Pretty sure we recruited Reyes out of High school. He actually went to Saint Marys then to JC to work on Grades.
6'7 230 inside out game.
Would be lucky to land him.

I really like his wide-body frame but I hate that he almost always takes one dribble before he goes up with the ball. He will get stripped regularly.

So far I know of 2: Chris Reyes -- 6'7" PF, Utah Stats Interesting note -- he went to same high school as Hemsley.Ray Kasongo -- 6'9" PF, Tennessee Stats+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally a thread that has info related to SDSU. Since there will be 500 plus transfers perhaps the 495 that have no interest in SDSU could be moved to Off Topic.

I like the fact there is a new thread for players we are actually going after but these two players are not needed. We need centers to replace Chol and Spenscer certainly not power forwards or third string guys.Maybe we could use one center and one small forward but certainly not a power forward.

You guys can bag on the transfer thread I created, but at least there's something to follow. Chris Reyes, no thank you. Ray Kasongo, potential fell last year. There's gotta be more out there then these two.

I have followed SDSU basketball for a long time, and very closely in the Steve Fisher era. I am getting up there in age, so it could be my memory, or lack thereof. But, I don't recall Ryan Amaroso, Garrett Green, or Josh Davis being widely discussed prior to coming on board. Josh Davis being the most recent, I do remember a newspaper article about him prior to his commitment. I guess what I'm saying is, "In Fish I trust!".

Josh Davis being the most recent, I do remember a newspaper article about him prior to his commitment. I guess what I'm saying is, "In Fish I trust!". Good point. For reference, I found some old articles on Josh Davis. - On April 9th, there was a report he was down to 4 schools (none being SDSU) - On April 17th, there was another report that he was now considering 5 schools (none being SDSU) - On May 15th, it was announced that Josh Davis was transferring to SDSUHopefully the Aztec coaches are on some guys with better numbers than the 2 we've heard about and hopefully they'll land one that we've not been reported to be in the mix for like Josh Davis.
As another reference point... - On July 19th, Garrett Green announced he'd graduate (in August) and transfer elsewhere for his senior year. - On August 7th, Green announced he was transferring to SDSUThere may also be grad transfers that don't come on the radar until later this summer.

I think Reyes might be exactly what next years team needs. He was stuck behind arguably the best college C for the last two years, but this kid is a lot closer to being a player like Josh Davis than most realize. He started 33 of 35 games his first year at Utah avg 5 pts & 4rbs. He's 6'7 236 and well known for defense, rebounding and physical play and happy settings screens and doing the dirty work.
Toughness, defense and leadership ... Is exactly what was lacking this year, and he brings that as a rugged post player. Sign him up

I get what you are saying, and completely agree, but keep in mind neither Spenser or Chol were technically a center (both listed as forwards) even though Spenser clearly was a center. There are so few guys who actually play center in college hoops, and even fewer of them go by that designation. I think we may have to look for a wide bodied, bang 'em in the post, type player like Reyes.

As a redshirt sophomore (first season at Utah), Chris Reyes played 21 minutes against the Aztecs at Viejas arena and had 8 points (4-5 from FT line), 9 rebounds (6 offensive), 1 assist and 1 block. I like the idea of having him but agree he does not fulfill an immediate need. Likely a backup in our rotation.
I do think he could successfully defend opposing 5's, just not sure he could successfully score against them.

"21 mins, 8 points (4-5 from FT line), 9 rebounds (6 offensive), 1 assist and 1 block."
If Reyes could put up a stat line like that against solid competition, for the Aztecs... I'd be absolfrickingly delighted.

Does Reyes have "hands of stone"? If he doesn't, how will he replace Chol? From where will we get basketballs stripped or passes ricochet off our centers hands? Question to ask as we look for a replacement that can provide What Chol use to

Does Reyes have "hands of stone"? If he doesn't, how will he replace Chol? From where will we get basketballs stripped or passes ricochet off our centers hands? Question to ask as we look for a replacement that can provide What Chol use to Exactly, we're not replacing Shaq here. Comparing Reyes 1st year at Utah to Chol's and Spencer's senior years for us ...
Reyes had more points, rebounds, blocks, assists and less turnovers than Chol ... and was very similar to Spencer in points, rebounds and assists playing about half the minutes. As long as he can rebound and defend opposing bigs this is almost an upgrade. If we lose Pope ... he could be a huge pickup for us.
