Does Reyes have "hands of stone"? If he doesn't, how will he replace Chol? From where will we get basketballs stripped or passes ricochet off our centers hands? Question to ask as we look for a replacement that can provide What Chol use to Exactly, we're not replacing Shaq here. Comparing Reyes 1st year at Utah to Chol's and Spencer's senior years for us ...
Reyes had more points, rebounds, blocks, assists and less turnovers than Chol ... and was very similar to Spencer in points, rebounds and assists playing about half the minutes. As long as he can rebound and defend opposing bigs this is almost an upgrade. If we lose Pope ... he could be a huge pickup for us.
Bottom line he is too short to play the 5 and this is ridiculous. He could play the 4 but we have 4 or 5 recruits already that play that position. So please coaches just go after what we actually need so us posters can keep our sanity.

He played the 5 at Utah. So he's too short to play it in the MWC but not the P12? He plays bigger than 6'7, and can body up with every big I can think of in our conference. He'd be fine. Not a guy who takes you to the next level, but definitely someone capable of filling a quality role in our rotation.

Assuming he does in fact mean USD, sounds like we are no longer on Reyes' radar or (perhaps more likely based on the caliber of schools) he's no longer on ours.

He is scrappy and has a high IQ that makes up for his lack of athleticism. This would have been helpful against USD and GW where we were outsmarted and outhustled. I'm sure we are looking at options with a greater upside but I would have preferred this over what we got from Manos de Piedra Chol this season.

If the goal/need is for someone to start & be a critical contributor at the 5, then he's probably not the best option. But those aren't readily available. We just need someone to bang at the 5 for around 15 minutes a game, and they don't have to be a top scorer. He's done that at Utah, and is more than capable of doing the same at SDSU. He's a terrific rebounder, doesn't relinquish position in the low box defensively, and can finish offensively. He'd be an upgrade Offensively over Spencer, and would man the boards as good if not better (statistically he was better both on the O & D boards than Sky).
Both he & Clark (USC), also 6'7, would be fine pick-ups if we can't get a game changer. Both would plug the hole.

Good call ... Clark isn't bad either but he had 2 separated shoulders this last year which hurt his playing time and stats. Shoulder separations seem to happen again and again for some athletes. If healthy though, he's similar to Reyes ... tough rebounder & defender but undersized. And I think we would be better off with either of these guys than the 610 235 WSU player who does nothing except block shots. We're gonna have good size across the board next year ...what we need is interior toughness and rebounding when we go to the bench.

I guess so I just had to argue a little bit.He is most likely off the board as a potential recruit so I am putting my efforts into or trying to find out who else they are talking to.

everyone relax. the season was up and down but it wasn't terrible. the jam center is helping. it helps bring kawhi back in the summers to work out on the mesa and if you don't think seeing a first team all nba player in the jam center working out isn't useful maybe you shouldn't have made that hefty 25 dollar donation to have it built.
if you want big recruit headlines see the steep decline of the unlv running rebels.
if the aztecs don't get a center I'm pretty sure steve fisher will devise something. if only we had tall athletic players that could defend multiple positions... oh right, we already have that. it's the template for the direction of the sport and fish has been recruiting that way for years. the idea of tweeners are no longer a terrible thing.
chill and get ready for football

Fisher on both his TV and the radio sure sounds as if he is coming back to coach this year. Recruits as they usually do , have most of the leverage , they can decide who they want to visit. So it does not do any good to put out numerous why not come to SDSU if the recruit has other schools they prefer to go visit . Usually the SDSU staff tries to do the behind the scenes work as quietly as they can and usually prefers to only go after a limited amount of guys. Believe we did offer the top JC 5 Williams, but he went to visit the Ducks and decided that was the place for him right away . Not sure what the thoughts are about L . Allen at San Diego JC or the other guys who have been mentioned in various posts . Quality is important . Getting a 5 has not always been easy
I think we need do need another guy to help at the 5 , But if we do Not get any one . Then it looks as though Zylan , would help there or see if Jalen could provide some help . If Malik comes back it could really help at the 4 , with Teki/ MG-C at the 3 .
