An update in the recruiting services: #9, #12, #13 overall.
Starting with TJ after getting Nolan and considering how many additional spots we have, the Aztecs could get a UNLV type class for 2016. Great players like to play with other great players. Great players like to go where they can win.

Awesome to even be in consideration at this point, like others have said I don't except to land him, but how sweet would it be to have a top 10 local kid stay home and come to the Mesa. He'd be an SDSU legend, even if it was only for one season. If Leaf were to come to SDSU, it would really enhance SDSU's chances with 2017 local players in McCoy and Hands.

This is where Dutcher and Hutson really earn their money...going out and landing Leaf. I think Leaf can reclassify and play this year. Imagine a lineup with Leaf, Shep, Pope, and Hemsley. If we don't get him...I agree just having sdsu on his list is great for exposure.

The big hurdle to that dream is if he were to reclassify he'd need to do it ASAP to get thru clearinghouse, unless he's already started the process (like Norain did). I just can't see this wrapping in the next week or so can you? I think he makes a couple trips.. Then again....TJ reclassifies only after Shrigs goes down, opening up PT...coincidence? (probably...damn, you got me dreaming!)

Where is it stated any where he can reclassify ? Especially with this short of a window to make decision. Is interesting to see IU - the family all time favorite college is back in play . Will be very interesting to see what schools he actually schedules for official or even unofficial visits . Since we are local would guess we are unofficial , if that .

Several articles have suggested that if his academics are in line he's considered reclassifying so his grad class is 2015, and then playing overseas for 1 year & going into the 2016 draft.
I think it's the least likely of all scenarios. but it HAS been mentioned in multiple places.

Yes he is a year older , very likely held back a year when he was younger, so he could get an extra year to develop ( way to gain an edge) . But can he now make up that year ,in the next month or ? so he graduates when ?.
Will be very interested in to see what the family lines up for him . College visits ?, HS enrollment ? , Home School ?, trips abroad ? They sure know how to use every angle .
IMO spend the energy going after Cage , Kone , Stanback ...or others . See if Leaf decides to actually come here for a visit or does the PR move of listing SDSU as schools that have contacted him , and of course we have inquired if he is interested .

how funny would it be that we lost Buddah but gained Leaf? Nice trade off I'd say. I remember we were upset we lost Kevin Young but his scholarship ended up going to either Dakarai Allen or Malik. Good trade off I'd say.

Too bad these local kids don't look at life in the long haul. Could you imagine Leaf's after basketball situation in San Diego if he were to play at SDSU? He would own San Diego. Open doors baby!

I am waiting and hoping for some local 4* and 5* guys to stay home and do that. We have a very good program and it will happen sooner rather than later. A TJ Leaf or Jalen Hands or Brandon McCoy would be huge and get the ball rolling for future local kids. Let's get them in here!

I mostly agree with you point but I think Kell (ESPN 4*) and Shrigley (ESPN 4*) were both San Diego Section POY, so we are getting some of them. Chol was also a POY who transferred back to SDSU. 2015 - Leaf (Jr.) - TBD 2014 - Kell - SDSU 2013 - Rooks - Cal 2012 - Shrigley - SDSU 2011 - Chol - Arizona/SDSU

Maybe should have worded it differently.Maybe just 5* guys, local guys rated 1-30 instead of 31-100 like Chol #61, Shrigs #130 and Kell #81. We do get quality Division 1 players from the local area. Just get one local creme de la creme player to come here and more will follow. Hands #23, Leaf #9-#12 and McCoy #20 are creme de la creme recruits......let's get a couple!

How did playing in Israel work out for Jeremy Tyler?
Was it a quicker route to the NBA? Or, did it take him even longer to get to the NBA than finishing HS with a one & done would have?
Oh, and is he really tearing up the NBA now?

Oh, and is he really tearing up the NBA now? Maybe the D League again. Sad story. He or whoever advised him made some poor decisions. Have seen it on this board that he was lazy and never really went all out after it.

How did playing in Israel work out for Jeremy Tyler? Was it a quicker route to the NBA? Or, did it take him even longer to get to the NBA than finishing HS with a one & done would have? Oh, and is he really tearing up the NBA now? Tyler is getting paid, and paid relatively well by NBA teams. So you can't completely discount his strategy. I've heard he probably wouldn't have qualified at Louisville, so may have had to go the professional route anyway.
I think they're 2 different cases. Tyler was always immature, at least on the court, and not only had to mature off but on the court. Leaf is a much more mature player on the court IMO, and seems to have a dedicated support system. Plus, he's already played with the Israel basketball team, and from my understanding he could just play with their national team as well?
Don't think it happens BECAUSE he's a different case than Tyler, but going to Israel is always an option for him. I think he stays stateside, but I'd LOVE to know what truly led him to leave UA? They're losing some key players at his position, so can't see PT being the issue. Nor the talent around him since UA always just reloads. Nor stability, since Miller's not going anywhere?
I'm thinking it's the connection to his grass roots team, thus enticing him to play with one/a couple of his teammates (believe people have said they're a UCLA feeder), OR he's rethinking the local, homeboy angle! At least that's my hope!

At one point, Jeremy was the #1 rated sophomore in the country. On his way to Louisville. Let his head get too big. Even made a documentary of his daily life to sell to ESPN later on. Poor kid had bad advice and believed the hype. Leaf, Hands, McCoy (not expecting Ayton) should come play together at SDSU even though Leaf is a year ahead of them. If they're good enough for the NBA, they'll get there regardless of school. Be a monster here instead of just another spoke in the wheel at Kentucky or Arizona. UCLA had their success when they were able to keep home grown LA kids (Ariza, Holliday, Farmar, etc)
