goaztecs: .@coachlongsdsu says the Aztecs and Hawai'i are about as equal in talent and physicality as any team on the schedule this year. Actually legkick, that's exactly what he said. Verbatim. When our own coach compares the talent and physicality of Hawaii to SDSU, and calls them equal, we've got a real problem. Seriously? "about as equal" is NOT the same as "equal". For example, if Cal has 130% of the "talent and physicality" of SDSU, Penn State has 125%, USD has 50%, Fresno has 80%, and South Alabama and Hawaii have 90%, who is "about as equal . . . as any team on the schedule this year?" The latter two. Who is equal? None. Now, what you could do if you were intellectually dishonest, and didn't understand that this was coach speak is . . . extrapolate from what he said after the South Alabama game and transpose that onto what he is saying about Hawaii to make it look like he actually means that Hawaii and SDSU are equal in talent and physicality. That would be sophistry, but it would at least be superficially plausible.

I would expect nothing less of you.
Spin it as you wish, call it "coach speak" if you want, but to try and paint these comments as anything but a negative reflection on RL's perception of the talent and physicality of his SDSU squad is a flat out embarrassment, particularly when coming from a HC who is comparing his squad to Hawaii and Southern Alabama.
Sorry, I'm not buying it as anything but a set-up (in the event of an Aztec loss) so that Long can point to the fact that he told everyone up front that these were two equally matched teams.

Isn't Hawaii favored by around 3 points? They are at home, which is generally considered to be worth 3-6 points. So, the powers that be consider Hawaii and SDSU to be pretty equal -- which is what Coach Long said as well. Yeah, I wish that we were favored by 14, but that is not the case and our coach is being honest.
Sheesh, I know that a lot of you want Rocky's head on a pole, but what do you want him to say at a pregame presser? "SDSU is much better than this weak Hawaii team. We will drive them before us, crush them, and hear the lamentations of their women."
Frankly, I don't think Coach Long could say "the sky is blue" without a chorus of "he's just saying that in case it is blue tomorrow".
Good Grief.
Go Aztecs!

As head coach at SDSU, Rocky Long is 12-12 on the road. Couple of road games up next. 2011 4-1 (Wins vs. Army, Air Force, Colorado State, Unlv. Loss vs. Michigan) 2012 3-2 (Wins vs. Nevada, Boise State, Wyoming. Losses vs. Washington, Fresno State) 2013 4-2 (Wins vs. New Mexico State, Air Force, San Jose State, Hawai'i. Losses vs. Ohio State, UNLV) 2014 1-5 (Win vs. New Mexico. Losses vs. North Carolina, Oregon State, Fresno State, Nevada, Boise State) 2015 0-2 (Cal, Penn State) Trending in wrong direction. Now trending in the RIGHT direction 3-2 on the year, and 15-12 overall
