As head coach at SDSU, Rocky Long is 12-12 on the road. Couple of road games up next.
2011 4-1 (Wins vs. Army, Air Force, Colorado State, Unlv. Loss vs. Michigan)
2012 3-2 (Wins vs. Nevada, Boise State, Wyoming. Losses vs. Washington, Fresno State)
2013 4-2 (Wins vs. New Mexico State, Air Force, San Jose State, Hawai'i. Losses vs. Ohio State, UNLV)
2014 1-5 (Win vs. New Mexico. Losses vs. North Carolina, Oregon State, Fresno State, Nevada, Boise State)
2015 0-2 (Cal, Penn State)
Trending in wrong direction.

Two years ago when Rocky won his only bowl game at SDSU and Hawaii was 1-11, we had to go to OT to win in Honolulu.
Vegas is now predicting Hawaii will win. Doctors are predicting it will be a cure for insomnia.

Anyone who thinks Hawaii will or should be a walkover doesn't really understand college football. Regardless of their performance against Boise on the road, Hawaii has one of the biggest home field travel advantages and play very different on the road versus at home. It should be a much tougher game, and it wouldn't shock me if Hawaii wins. They are favored for a reason.
SDSU has lost two of the last three in Hawaii, but they did win the most recent . . . by a touchdown, 28-21 in 2013.
SDSU beat Hawaii 52-14 at Qualcomm in 2012, and 20-10 last year at the Q.

I think the Aztecs are less vulnerable to the Hawaii "vacation paradise trap game syndrome" than other schools, because they already live in a vacation paradise. Many good BYU, Wyoming and Colorado St. teams have gone to Honolulu and fallen short.
We shall see, not having Pumphrey will be a factor.

So for 2014 and 2015 we are a combined 1-7 on the road( New Mexico) . More important road game for our QB and OL, two very shaky areas of our game plus DP is very questionable at best . Game will be won or lost by our line play both sides of the ball and our QB play .Same story every week .

It may be the "vacation trap" thing, but I think it is more of a travel distance thing. It is over 3,300 miles from Fort Collins, Colo to Honolulu. That is far longer than any trip the Aztecs take - even State College, PA or West Point, NY.

Much of the advantage of Hawaii playing at home revolves around timezone and game time in the islands ... a 6 pm game time in Hawaii is 9 pm in CA (PST)/10 pm (MST) -- couple that with the lengthy travel and you get an idea of what the visiting teams face when playing at Hawaii.
It's a similar advantage to that of East Coast teams like Army, when they play West Coast teams and set game time for noon in New York which is 9 am in CA ... when you are used to games starting in the evening in CA, that can be a big change.

I think the NCAA's broad brushstroke for advanced travel shouldn't be applied when flying to Hawaii. Teams going there should be provided an extra day in advance. That should also benefit Hawaii when coming to the mainland as well.

That's depressing. And cause for Rocky's termination.

I'm more worried about Max Smith than Rocky. He's never won a road game as a starter...here or Kentucky. Hopefully the two passing touchdowns gives him and the team much needed confidence.

That's depressing. And cause for Rocky's termination. lather, rinse, repeat. So RL is saying that we can't recruit any better than Hawaii? And that Hawaii is as talented as Penn State?

That's depressing. And cause for Rocky's termination. More like flat out WRONG. And if I were a reporter in that room, first I'd laugh out loud, then I'd call him out on it. Complete B.S. Even HE can't believe that- I'd HOPE

Lol, that's bad reading comprehension on the second one. He is saying that Hawaii and SDSU are close in talent. If forced to answer, he would probably say that Penn State and Cal had better talent. The first part about recruiting is a legitimate concern. I don't see why SDSU shouldn't be recruiting far better than Hawaii.

Rocky will say this every week from here on out. It's just a coach talking to the media who won't grill him on that and giving the other team nothing to get fired up about. If Rocky truly felt that way it would be very sad though. Norm Chow is 10-32 at Hawaii and in that same time Rocky is 26-18 and 3 bowl games. There's no way we are equal in talent.

I don't see why SDSU shouldn't be recruiting far better than Hawaii. "the Aztecs and Hawai'i are about as equal in talent and physicality as any team on the schedule this year." Nah, my reading comprehension is just fine. Aztecs and Warriors are as close in talent as any team on our schedule says RL. If our talent level is on a par with Hawaii, we've got more problems than we thought. My question is, who is responsible for the fact that our talent level is equal to a team as consistently bad as Hawaii?

As long as our offensive line performs well not having Pumphery will not be a major blow. We are stacked at running back with Price, Penny & Stamps. All those running backs could start for other teams in the MWC.

Seriously, "thetruth", it's not hard to interpret this. Long is NOT saying that Hawaii is equal to Penn State or Cal in talent. Nor he is saying that Hawaii is equal to USD in talent. He is saying that of all the teams on the schedule, the Aztecs are most equal in talent and physicality to Hawaii.
Your second question belies that you did not understand this. There is plenty to criticize about Long, and it is unnecessary to misconstrue what he says to score points against him.
It is also kind of lame to use coach speak from a press conference against him. Long is NOT going to give Hawaii any bulletin board material; if anything, he would talk them up.
