After we missed the 24 yard attempt I started to have horrible flashbacks. Misses happen. Plus, we never had a 24 yard attempt. Hageman missed from 50 and 42. He is 3 for 3 so far this year from within 40 yards.

The 42-yarder was wide right by about a foot. He'll be fine.

The 42-yarder was wide right by about a foot. He'll be fine. That's two (S. Alabama) from that distance and that right side that he's missed now- just barely to the right. I fear that over compensting for those near misses may start things missing left. In any event, he needs to start hitting those- it'd make things easier on me at least.

Fortunately, we didn't need them to win. Hopefully, he'll make the ones that we will need in our upcoming games.
Go Aztecs!

Staaaahhhhpppp! I believe he was 5/6 before the start of the game. He was 80% last year. I'm going off of memory. But something like that.
QUALITY of post on scale of 1-10?

Its college football, even the big tin schools struggle with field goals.

Will be interesting going forward , what Rocky does on field goal attempts ? Many times it becomes a mental thing with kickers, does he still have the confidence ? We do have an experienced coach at ST . the coach will have an interesting week with him and Mills, return man, to get their confidence back .

I'm not very happy with Mills, he suddenly got linebacker hands (the past two games) and is a liability with the return game.
Oldie Out

Question ? how many yards does the returner get when they signal for a fair catch ? Does not seem as though they get too many . Article in UT seems to infer that Mills has lost his confidence on punt returns . ST coach will have some work this week with both FG team and Mills . Maybe for Mills let him replace Price on kick off returns, to get confidence back , especially if Price will get more carries with DP 's injury.

It doesn't even count as a return when they fair catch it.

As a matter of a technicality ... if a fair catch is called -- and the receiver tries to advance the ball after the catch, it is a penalty that results in a loss of yardage.

Correct, but that is irrelevant right now. He asked how many yards does a guy get if he fair catches a punt. Plus, that penalty yards is not deducted from the player. So it would still be a fair catch, which does not count as a return. But, correct, you cannot advance the ball if you called a fair catch. You can let it go and not attempt to catch it.

That is why I couched my comment "as a matter of a technicality", with the inference as to why a player would not attempt to advance the ball after calling for the fair catch ... in support of your comment that there is no return yardage on a fair catch. I chose not to confuse things with anything related to kick-catch interference penalties as another reason for the receiver to either make the catch or let it go after calling for a fair catch. It is obvious that something is wrong with Mills if he is signaling for a fair catch and not concentrating on completing the catch. He is not going to advance it after calling for a fair catch so there is no reason for not completing the catch. If he can't decide to catch it or let it go -- that is still a problem.

He's a little inconsistent but is so much better than what we've had the past few years. We have bigger problems than placekicking. Catching punts being one of them.
