Take a time machine and go back to December 2005 to make sure Jimbo Fisher was hired instead of Chuck Long.
All kidding aside, these were among the candidates interviewed to replace Tom Craft: Our very own Rocky Long (then New Mexico HC), Jim Harbaugh, Dennis Erickson, and Jimbo Fisher. Other candidates considered were Duane Akina (then DB coach at Arizona, current DB coach at Stanford) and Jethro Franklin (then DL coach at Miami, current DL coach for Oakland Raiders)

I wouldn't mind Bobby Hauck getting the job. Not necessarily my first choice, but he did get UNLV to a Bowl game and his teams always played hard - even when they were out of Bowl contention. I mean, can anybody win consistently at UNLV?
I'm just so tired of fighting the fight to have mediocre (or worse) head coaches named Long replaced that I'm just gonna roll with it.
As long as a committee like the one that hired Hoke makes the selection (preferably most of the same guys) I'm good with whoever gets the job.

He did real well at Montana, and did get UNLV to a Bowl game. That was a minor miracle. AND he has the special teams playing well. Not a bad coach. Maybe not as good as we need - I don't know - but not a bad coach. I don't have a favorite at this point. I'll trust the committee. But if Sterk makes the decision himself? That may cause some problems...

Of all the positions, Special Teams has shown the most improvement.
Give Bobby Hauck a star.

That may cause some problems... i agree that Hauck is a good coach, but we need a clean slate. Our problem just isn't Rocky, it is also our assistants. If we hire Hauck as the HC, he will retain some of the staff, and things just won't change. We need to clean house and get new faces in here with a different philosophy. I love the optimism of the people listing P5 coordinators as candidates. But, do you truly believe we have a shot at those people? They are better off staying the coordinator at that school until a P5 head coaching job opens up. Don't get me wrong, I'd like Frost or Norvell, but we have zero shot. Our only shot are at G5 HC/OC/DC's, and unemployed, like Mack Brown. Or a former head coach/coordinator who is now a position coach at a P5, like Ed Orgeron. Only way we will get a high end guy from the P5.

QB play (well along with coaching and awful special teams play)

OMG there are some awful names being advocated here. A.W.F.U.L. Well, none of us will be selecting the next head coach, so you can rest easy. We just need to make sure that Jim Sterk has NOTHING to do with the hire except to sign the paperwork.

Here's a suggestion, he runs the spread offense. I don't care who or what he is, even Goldie Hawn, is an upgrade.

Too old now. That ship has sailed. We need a coach in his mid 40's to mid 50's if we replace Rocky.

I am not sure if Eddie O. can coach consistently, but one thing is for sure- he would bring in absolute studs at a level SDSU has not seen.
