Agree on that as he missed on several who just were not good enough. But we'll never know who said "no thanks" . I surmise there were several. Was that his fault? I believe that success in CFB is 80percrnt recruiting . SDSU or Tennessee? Who do you pick? Recruiting is often not much better than a crapshoot, I don't blame Sipe for that. But our QBs showed very little improvement under his tutelage, in fact even regression (IMO). Sure, there are various factors involved when it come to actual stats (OL, WRs, game situations), but things like mechanics, accuracy, quality of reads/decision-making... unless I'm missing something those didn't seem to improve during a QB's time on The Mesa. But we've completely digressed from the topic of Bawden, who we all look forward to being a great Aztec FB...

I'm surprised he wasn't switched to LBer. I would think having QB experience would help him with LB reads. I thought he would switch to defense as well.

Wasn't J. R. Tolver a QB who became a very good WR?

I'd assume we're much thinner at fullback than at linebacker. Looking at our depth chart and roster, we look stacked at LB. But, if attrition hits, he can always switch if need be. Oldie Out

I'm not taking it personally, but you seem to be all hung up on the QB label. He was recruited as a football player who was going to play somewhere. No reason to question why he'd be recruited for ANY position. He was good enough at QB last year to push Chapman to the bench; at least initially. I don't agree with the approach of recruiting a QB and hope he fits in somewhere. But, we'll just agree to disagree on this one. If he was the only one we brough in I'd agree with you. He wasnt. Second tier QBs, which is who most B5 teams end up with, is a crapshoot. The prior QBs at CSU and Nevada were players thought to have mechanical issues and would be better off playing elsewhere. They succeeded. Sometimes you take a gamble on good athletes at QB.

Wasn't J. R. Tolver a QB who became a very good WR? Yes, at Mira Mesa HS he was a great dual-threat QB, very athletic with wheels. Last I heard, he was the head coach at Sage Hill HS near Newport Beach. Oldie Out

Bawden knows the score, he was a two star QB coming out of HS (with a full ride scholly as a bonus) and Sipe thought the world of him, supposedly.
Hopefully, he can turn into a 5 star FB/HB when all is said and done.

Another example of how "good" our QB recruiting has been. NOT

would guess that Bawden who enrolled early last year so he could participate in Spring ball last year . Then played as active last year on the team while Chapman red shirted , then participated in Spring ball this year dropping to #4 QB , had options . Try to transfer , red shirt ( still can to learn a position ) or play at HB this year . Do agree that the QB recruiting has been horrible, hope we are now working on a corrected system for selecting QB's,is it OC Horton ? then training them with the new QB coach ? . Not sure who made decisions on Smith , JR and Chapman ?. Think Agnew 2015 QB recruit was recruited by Horton . 2016 we have QB/athlete from Mt Carmel , did Horton agree?.

Yes, the QB recruiting has been questionable. But you DID notice that QB Coach Sipe was fired, right? Oldie Out
