What in the hell does Nevada have to do with the Confederacy? Nevada wasn't part of the war of secession. Their "mascot" and name never have made sense. The Nevada Gamblers might make sense. Or the Nevada Escorts. But the Rebels? Rebels without a Clue, maybe.

And it's definitely not related to the 'Southern Confederacy' as already stated. I'm sure the reasoning for the proposed name change is the stigma behind the word. Just like U of Hawaii a few years back removed "Rainbow" from the Rainbow Warriors name because of the presumed 'stigma' behind the word Rainbow (LOL).

I am often amazed at the human mind's ability to except just about anything. The left is using this tragedy in Charleston as a valid pretext to achieve another goal.
I hope UNLV tells Senator Reid to suck it.

Imagine, an advanced society coming up with two words that sound exactly alike but are spelled differently and mean different things... Astounding, really. Plus, F those leftie commies for their "another goal" of renaming Lower Nevada CC

The original mascot for Nevada Southern was a wolf dressed in a Confederate uniform named Beauregard. The name Rebels was adopted as a play on the South breaking away from the North and the colors of scarlet and gray was because UNR's is blue and it was symbolic. Harry Reid.is an always has been a jackass and embarrassment to the state of Nevada.

Just rename them the "Vegas Gamblers" and everyone will be happy.
"Flip the cards…"
"Crapped out again"
"Strip the slots"
Just think of all the fun that The Show will have …

So, they have a symbol/mascot dressed up as a Confederate? Maybe they could be the Southern Belles.

Yeah, that makes lots of sense.

I hope UNLV tells Senator Reid to suck it. I hope that UNLV leaves the MWC and that Confederate battle flags fly only in museums which is where they belong. They were trotted back out and placed in front of some Southern capitals as a response to the civil rights legislation of the '60s. That tells one all one needs to know about why those flags are a problem. They were brought back as a symbol of defiance and racism. That flag is a symbol of racial hatred, slavery and injustice, oh, and of murder and lynching as well.

Still looking for the quote where Reid says they should change it. Looks to me like -- when asked by the reporter -- he did the political equivalent of responding "Go ask mom".
