Has there been any thoughts by the coaching staff to have a "midnight on the Mesa event" at the JAM Center ?

if they could put together an interesting beginning practice there with even 500 to 1000 fans there , put on a DVD - CD or You Tube . Primarily for RECRUITS , other donors , sponsors . It could assist the program . Does not need to have thousands there just an enthusiastic group. If they charged $5 to $10 .00 , would you attend ? Could easily raise some additional funds and extra buzz . Also get practice off on an exciting note .

Do you see stands, or even room for 500-1000 people to stand around? I guess they could play half court & set up fold out chairs on the other half, but would you want that to count as one of our practices?
Recruits who visit the campus will see the facility with the people that matter - the players & the coaches. I'm guessing games in Viejas are more than enough to give them a feel for the fan base & the environment.
They're planning on having an event for the supporters, and do agree it would be a great opportunity to raise additional funds if they go in that direction. Hope they do. And I guess I could see a "competition" as an aspect of that event (3-point, dunk), assuming the coaching staff wants to use up one of their practices for that, since if they did that they'd have to cut back or eliminate another practice altogether to do that. Personally, I'd rather see us use practice time for practicing, but realize some prefer a spectacle.
Curious, have they done Midnight Madness at Viejas, and was it successful? Did they charge for it? I don't recall, but don't recall anything last year. If it's been successful in the past I'd guess, or hope, they'd do it in the future, IF the coaches believe it's a good use of their and their player's time.

Yeah, they've done MM a couple times, but I think Fisher doesn't care too much for the spectacle aspect. There was no charge to fans.

IIRC, the last one (a few years back?) was a LONG drawn out affair with both the men's and women's teams. Could be fun if you limit it to an hour tops... all you really need: Player introductions Dunk contest 3 pt. contest 10 minute scrimmage Edit: Perhaps add on a walk-through of the new JAM Center (a walk-through... no lingering around etc etc) and you could generate a lot of interest. Heck, I'd fly down for one night to get to see the new JAM Center.

I agree on the time limit.

I went to the event a few years back that Tony Bland and T. Shelton put together" Madness on the Mesa " at Viejas, it had music , emcee , dunk contest , 3 point shooting ,practice and a scrimmage for both Men's and Women's teams . Cheer leaders , SHOW, ... Maybe 500-1000 fans ,so it was too big of a setting , was free . That is why maybe the smaller facility ,could play out even better , great way to promote the facility and the program . Just a thought. Could assist in recruiting or sponsors .

Seems to me these "midnight madness" events can be fun for the fans, but from a coaches perspective they're a waste of their valuable time. Can see them also being good for promoting the team & selling tickets, which is not something we really need to do. Luckily.

Curious, would you fly down for a JAM center event if it DIDN'T include a practice, but instead a meet the players/view facility only? In other words, how important is the 1-hour event you refer to in your decision? (& would allow the team to have a separate practice/court time)
And what if to be included in the tour you had to actually donate, say $150+, specifically to the JAM center? Would you still come down and/or donate $150 to get invited?
Personally, I'd rather see the JAM center event be about growing the Aztec Club - getting people to donate the $150 & signing up, getting that number higher.
Am curious to see how limited or how wide they go with this event?

I would definitely fly down for a JAM Center only event... purely a meet and greet. I could see paying (making a donation) up to $250 to meet the players and coaches and snap a few pictures. Maybe have a side raffle for a chance to win a team autographed ball! I live in the SF East Bay... make a very modest living... and try to make it to all NorCal road games. This would be $$$ well spent in my eyes!

It really is just about the fans, and them connecting with the players. Coaches do a quick hype up and then it is mostly the players getting the crowd hyped up with dunk contests, skits or a dance routine, and a scrimmage.

The last time they did it . It was Madness on the Mesa , maybe a Saturday afternoon . Do think it is an opportunity to put something nice together for recruiting( we do need a good 2016 recruiting class and 2017 ) and / or the opportunity to raise some money( always need that also ) - with tours , with opportunity to watch part of the practice or ..... the Madness for a short time before or after actual practice . The size of the JAM Center could make it even more special for those attending .Also opportunity for T Shelton to put together an interesting Show .

Pretty sure the new UNLV facility has a decent amount of seats.
