The lawsuits will be a waste of tax payer funds. Buts that's how some lawyers make money by filing frivolous lawsuits to only be compensated for hours worked by filing a claim with a state I anticipate at least 2 lawsuits ... The first is regarding the County's role; is it a loan or is the County violating its' own rule by contributing County funds to a sports facility without a county vote. If it is a loan, who is paying it back and from what source? (that could be yet another lawsuit) The 2nd regarding the sale of public property to private developers. While true that the 75 acres falls below the 80 acres that would trigger an automatic vote, I would expect a lawsuit to determine the historical designation of the property as recreational -- if so, a vote would be required. Once the EIR is completed, I would guess more lawsuits will be filed.

I wouldn't be surprised if state isn't the one that buys the 75 acres. Looks like they are going to share a stadium On the positive side Day said be could see the Aztecs having a footprint on the stadium design to include there own locker room The Aztecs won't be sharing a stadium if the plan is taken to the people of San Diego for a vote...because there won't be a new stadium... Simply put...the majority of the people in the city / county of San Diego don't care about sports and would rather use our tax money for other projects beyond that of a sports stadium...this is the reason why a new stadium will never happen...and even if the politicians manage to avoid a vote...there will then be lawsuits filed from here to Monday to prevent the construction from ever happening...but heck...maybe it'll work it's way through the courts quickly and efficiently....just like the Mt. Soledad cross... File away!

Maybe Aztec Warrior Tarps over the upper sections or large picture tarps of Aztec football greats all around the upper deck over the seats. That might get her down to 40-45k.

We can sell the thing out. SDSU games will be the inexpensive way to check out the new digs. Market correctly, schedule a good game or two, even if you have to pay, WIN them and instantly increase your fan base. For the life of me I do not understand the pessimism. The official position of the university is now out there. It is on-board.

Jan Goldsmith said that he expects there to be a countywide vote.

Jan Goldsmith said that he expects there to be a countywide vote. There was going to be a vote all along. The only question is will it require greater than 51% of the vote to pass. Of course, that is assuming the Chargers & City/County come away from the negotiating table with a deal. Regardless, the Chargers have an uphill battle to fight with no leverage and a PR nightmare they have created for themselves.

It pains me to say this but San Diego has become a minor league sports town. When did Phoenix pass us by? Phoenix for God's sake!
We cannot find a way to buils a footaball staduim for years and then when the plan comes up we al talk about lawsuits to stop it. Pretty dam sad if you ask me.We could have built it 10 years ago for half the cost.A Total lack of vision regarding sports.

I agree. Its pretty sad.
No matter what goes there, there will be lawsuits.
This is how lawyers operate, sue to generate income.
What the mass amounts of torts do is take away from the suits that have merit.
but, alas, there will be a vote and it will only be a simple majority, and it will pass.
The proof is in the pudding. The chargers ticket sales have gone up this year.

This city lacks vision for everything and we seem to elect the biggest idiots possible to office, so blame goes to the idiots we elect and the the idiots that vote them in. While I can praise Faulconer for his work so far on the stadium issue, nothing seems to change. Look at the whole convention center debacle.

You can feel the buzz around town and it's just going to grow once a deal is reached. The vocal majority are those that are pro-stadium. The naysayers are the minority in this. The biggest hurdle will not be a public vote, it's going to be the negotiation battle between the city and the Chargers.

Here's what I don't get: The Chargers get bumped to $300m, but the NFL stays at $200m. Why isn't the NFL, which has a license to print money, kicking in $300m, $400m or $500m on these projects? It would do no good to boost that specific category as it's a loan from the NFL that is repaid by the Chargers in annual installments ... easier just to get the money directly from the Chargers -- but I do see your point in that the NFL itself should contribute to the building of the venues of it's teams beyond the "loans" it provides. Wow. Thanks. Had no idea it was a loan. Geezus. Hardly worth the trouble. IMO, if the NFL keeps pushing all these stadia, bullying cities and running stalking horses that threaten to steal other city's teams -- then the least they could do is have a large slush fund to help kickstart various stadia projects throughout the country.

While I can praise Faulconer for his work so far on the stadium issue, nothing seems to change. Look at the whole convention center debacle. It's not just San Diego, it's California. That's why I keep saying I'll believe LA is building a stadium when the shovels hit the dirt. THEY haven't built a new FB stadium in 94 years. We as a state have become the embodiment of Jacques Barzun's Decadent society. In his tome, From Dawn to Decadence, Barzun describes Decadence as follows: "All that is meant by Decadence is "falling off". It implies in those who live in such a time no loss of energy or talent or moral sense. On the contrary, it is a very active time, full of deep concerns but peculiarly restless, for it sees no clear lines of advance. The loss it faces is that of Possibility. The forms of art as of life seem exhausted, the stages of development have been run through. Institutions function painfully. Repetition and frustration are the intolerable result."This is a near perfect description of California.

Some good teams and some great players over the years and many horrible teams. Ya gotta put up or shut up in this town as far as fan support goes, you have to get it the old fashioned way......EARN IT!

The biggest hurdle will not be a public vote, it's going to be the negotiation battle between the city and the Chargers. Find one poll in San Diego that supports the building of a new stadium that can house the Chargers using any public funds (land, general fund, taxes, loans, etc.). There is no momentum for the stadium beyond what CSAG did yesterday, which is a good start. It's better if you don't transfer your own personal feelings onto the public at large.
