Not really a surprise when you look at personal fouls committed. Draymond was top 5 in the NBA in personal fouls committed. So yes he blocked alot of shots but he also fouled alot. 238 Personal fouls to Kawhi's 120 personal fouls. That swung the votes and took out Draymond even for consideration of the award. Plus he complained alot on foul calls and had 11 technicals . Kawhi of course will never receive a technical. I don't care about blocked shots or complaining. Green was an elite defender, guarded 4 positions, and played 20 more games than Kawhi. I think Kawhi deserved it and am super happy for him, but to say fouls took Green out of consideration is crazy. He was one of the favorites and a lot of people's pick to win. He also finished second and had more first place votes than Kawhi. It was really close. Kawhi is the best on-ball wing/backcourt defender the NBA has seen in years. It's one thing to pick up steals by playing passing lanes and slacking off your man. It's another thing to rack up stats by picking your opponent clean off the dribble (ask Chris Paul... and Steph Curry). Green is an elite defender. My guess, some voters simply appreciate Kawhi's quiet demeanor and humble approach to the game... and are simply put off by Draymond's junior high trash talking.

Brutal up here in the Bay hearing all the local homers cry about how Green deserved it based on the # of first place votes. The way I see it, the voters actually pretty much agree unanimously that Whi is top 3 period whereas although Green got first place votes, a lot felt that he wasn't even top 3 in the league.

I pondered the thought on the plane coming home last night about how much we'd be hearing from if one of the NBA Divas won the Finals MVP and DPOY... Kawhi is so quiet and reserved, it hits the news and then is gone.

Not saying Green is not a great defender but he fouls alot. Kawhi will simply dominate and almost never foul. Although he did foul Monta Ellis on his steal you see on videos. Some excuse that stat by saying Green plays more D in the post which I always recognized but Green's fouls were DOUBLE Kawhi's. If it was only 30 or 40 more fouls then I would call it even based on the argument. But its not. Green has almost 130 MORE FOULS than Kawhi. One on one Green could not defend Kawhi as he is quicker.

Did you see Green who did push off Davis for a rebound last night run off the court in disgust? He is a drama queen. Laughable. NBA was deeply in need of someone like Kawhi. Class act and so glad he was an Aztec. San Diego should be eternally grateful.

We loved when Kawhi did what he did to Jimmer. Again, glad Kawhi won, think Kawhi should have won, just a little surprising.

I think what put Kawhi over the hump with the voters was the three games he played against the top players in the west who are in the running for MVP. Curry, Westbrook and Chris Paul. In the game against Curry he had 7 steals.

Kawhi is really doing himself, his family and Aztec Nation proud.
I admire his skill and how much he has worked on improving his game since entering the NBA, he is becoming a deadly offensive threat. His defense and rebounding are obviously already world class.
NBA Champion, Finals MVP, Defensive Player of the Year....not a bad resume for a guy.

Is there any other player in the NBA easier to like than Kawhi Leonard.......never hear a bad word out of him......a few NBA players may talk $h!+ about him(and we know why) He then goes on the thank the Spurs and talk up the organization, thanking them for allowing him to play defense. The guy just amazes me. Humility, Class, Genuine, A WE guy. On top of all that, he is a PLAYER! Getting better and better each season in the league......D POY, Finals MVP and who knows what else awaits him. He is leaps and bounds a better player than I thought he would be, what say u's?

He played a brilliant game tonight. I was always a huge fan but to see a guy go from where he was as a freshman at SDSU to where he is now is cool. Really cool. He is so humble and team oriented also, I love the way he conducts himself on the court.
