I'm confused.
If Bailey intends on doing a 2-year mission, there should be no urgency to commit for the class of 2018. Right?
Does this mean he's not going on a mission?

I hope he isn't so impressed by the atmosphere that he forgets to think about the Basketball aspects.

Latest has him going but he won't be coming back from the mission until right before. So will be wherever and won't be going thru recruiting process in 2018. Getting him would be huge for 2 reasons: 1) he's a very good talent, and 2) he won't count against this year's class so can still sign 2 more. He's a layaway plan.

Wherever Bailey commits, if he goes on a mission then I think it's just a verbal, right? I believe letters of intent are only good for one year. And the "Riley Nelson Rule" doesn't apply if the kid goes on a mission without enrolling in school.

As you said anything he agrees to now is a Verbal . NLI is the "binding " agreement , early time in November 11-18, then another in the Spring, but do not know if it is for the upcoming year or year the athlete decides to attend college ?

It depends on the student, he can sign a NLI then enroll at the school and request a deferral. It would lock in the school to him, but not him to the school.

Sounds like the situation where that guy skipped off to ku a couple of years back. Or buddha jones.
Aztecs honorably commit to these guys and they then demonstrate their character is not reliable/dependable/trustworthy or enviable.

Every recruit is different . Young was a transfer , so he could do whatever he chose to do and he did move on to Kansas. BJ very different situation ,as he chose to go down to UTEP level but did cause us to pass on some possible PF/C transfers or recruits ,that we need for 2016 . Bailey seems guy with scruples that very likely may do the correct thing when it comes to the time he will attend a school . But then these are young guys in today's world . So who knows

Aztecs honestly commit to these players. Players use that commitment to shop for another scholly.

That's part of being a bigger program; getting an offer from us legitimizes the recruit in the eyes of others who haven't done as much due diligence.

Love his game but hard to get too worked up about a player that wasn't going to be on campus for 3 years.

FYI--When Brendan commited to Arizona State, Stan Johnson was their lead recruiter. ASU rebuilt their staff after canning Herb Sendek and Stan Johnson became an assistant at Marquette
So he re committed to his original coach

Marquette's recruiting has been fenominal the past three years. They are gonna be very tough going forward.
Good luck Brendan.
