Is Sterk suiting up? As what? NEWS?? I thought that this is what was supposed to be happening all of the time. So now I understand. We have just been doodling around for the last 50 years and now an effort is going to be made by the Pres and the AD. I am very happy to finally see and all out effort made to become a player. Sure hope that they succeed. Go Aztecs!!

Assuming we win the USD game, which we will, it isn't even a blip in the road in the drive to 25. 9+ wins puts us in the MWC championship game against a ranked BSU. Win that game, and we are on our way. Go Aztecs! There's a lot of whistling through the graveyard going on here. The USD game is not a good sign for our program at all. "Aztecs head coach Rocky Long is traveling and was not available for comment," said yesterday's UT article. Maybe. Or maybe he just doesn't have anything good to say about this.

The game vs. USD also helps at least a little bit to be prepared to beat Cal the following weekend... which *would* be more than a blip on the radar...

This is yet another nonsense threads where optionated with no research know nothing's can spew. Do we still have people here who don't understand why we had no choice about scheduling USD? Still? Those who know have explained it so many times. The only question is how will it feel afterwards to the team not to those of you who still won't get it. As to the 25 when SDSU is in the big 12 in 2017 or 18 the top 25 won't be the criterion any longer. Do you myopic negativistic folks know why?

If Coryell could schedule Mexico Poly I guess someone else can schedule USD. Scheesh, what's the big deal?

The USD question is a case of either A or B and we have people upset that C was chosen. Get gas now or run the risk of being stranded on the freeway? I think we should buy a Prius.

If Coryell could schedule Mexico Poly I guess someone else can schedule USD. Scheesh, what's the big deal? Being as I don't live there anymore, I'm pretty much insulated. But here goes.... USD was 9-3 last year, HC Dale Lindsey is 17-6 going into his third year at USD. A member of the geezer club, like Long, ( Lindsey's 70), I'd still probably take him over Long. As Long's team has shown it is capable of losing, (or would bitch-slap be the more appropriate description), a home opener to the likes of Eastern Illinois, I would assume nothing. And if somehow, the Torero's manage to win, (or the Aztecs manage to lose), or if the game is even close, I'm not sure there be a dancing on the Mesa. This is what happens when you're forced to schedule a team where you have nothing to win and everything to lose, and a cross town at that. (I imagine how every P5 team must feel when they schedule the Aztecs).

the AD messed up should have made the school that backed out of the game sign a " pre - nupt" penalty clause .The team needs a game so USD game is there and maybe we get extra seats sold. Feel confident even some P5 schools have had similar situation . We also have games with P5: CAL and PSU . 1 game deal with it and mark it as learning experience , as we did not have to give them a home game .More important win the game , get the QB situation moving forward .

[/font] If this were 2006 to 2008, you would probably be correct. But now, with five bowl seasons behind us, what a number of P5 schools (Purdue, Indiana, Wake Forest, Iowa State, etc.) would probably think is something like this; " Hell, these guys aren't pathetic anymore. I think we can beat them, but they are good enough so that the outcome of the game is no longer a foregone conclusion." Even Top-25 P5 schools no doubt realize that playing the Aztecs is not like playing Charleston Southern. Expecially when they look at the many close games we have play at P5 schools recently. AzWm

Folks can argue about the game until they're blue in the face but one thing is beyond debate: the game is a total windfall for USD.

The summer humidity brings out much whining and gnashing of teeth. So don't go to the game. I'll be there, supporting my school.
Our little sister will get their one shot to leap up and sock our chin, then they'll ride back home in their little vans having learned their lesson - after swinging, wildly missing, and falling face first on the ground.

Well goals should be lofty, and Sterk's really reaching for the stars. That being said, the best thing about his statement is that it provides a quantifiable benchmark to measure the AD's performance. One top-25 team next year then props to Jimbo. However no top 25 teams and let the search for a new AD begin. Two years from now, there should be two top 25 teams, and three years from now football is a top 25 program, or we'll know the dream has not come true.

How long has Sterk been here? And he finally has a plan after all those years? I'm excited.
