how do you not run a play or let the guys that are a combined 15/18 shooting get a shot down the stretch?! Fisher has no control of his teams during the game. No one on this team knows where to look for guidance down the stretch. We're probably the only team in the ncaa with a "coach in waiting" and to make matters worse he's been that for what seems like 4 seasons. Our head coach and coach and coach in waiting are going to be ex coach and ex coach in waiting when the fan base gets fed up with the lack of preparation. Just an overall pathetic individual, hope things start looking up in other areas of your life bud.

After tonight Quinn better learn how to dish to the hot hand. He's no X even though he's trying to emulate him. Yeah but if he hit that 3 and we won it's a whole different perspective today. Tough loss but what can you do when the opposing team comes out 6/6 and on fire from deep three point range? Add to that the refs were flip-flopping from ticky-tack fouls to hard fouls. So pleased to have seen Pope's coming out party...won't have this every game but his future looks bright. That tip-in was not goal tending as the ball was coming back off the rim so he should have had 2 more pts. Shrigley's 3PT shooting percentage is significantly higher when we are losing. He needs to figure out that mental aspect. I really wish we put D'Eryl in against a red hot Bejarano. DW would have at least tired him out some. AQ seemed physically over-matched at times.

It was nice to see Shrigs getting his stroke back, but there's a slight problem. Dak Allen is a much better defender because of his length and quickness, but Shrigs has the offense. So with Shrigs in we're trading baskets. With Allen in his man can't shoot. What do you do?

Pope had a great game and Shrigley hit his shots , no FT's , had trouble on D,had trouble getting open in the last couple of minutes. . AQ 's game was not so hot 3 for 12 shooting , 10 points but also 0 / 6 on threes . Very disappointing again only 1 assist . So maybe AQ is odd man out . Go with Pope , Shepard, JJ , the DA and Shrigley ?? Or if we are playing the foul game for subs DA for D and MS for offense .

He's clutch on the FT line, plus he's starting to create his own shots.

I normally don't watch the highlights after we lose because it breaks my heart. But I watched this game's highlights because I am in awe of Pope's potential. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a potential NBA all star on our team. Watch him closely, take in every moment—because in a few short years everyone will know his name, and we will be witnesses of his ascension.

If he builds on what he did last night for the remainder of the season, he might even be gone after this year.

If I were the coach (haha), I would start this lineup:
AQ Shrigley JJ Pope Skyar (with this you have four legit scorers but not a great defensive team)
And be quick to bring in:
Kell DA Shep Chol and leave JJ on the court (with this you have a killer defensive squad that will struggle to score)
Mix in plenty of DW as needed for defense on the opposing PG (I think Zabo will shine next year, but will be peripheral by now this year, unfortunately, as I like him).
Pope is a much better offensive player than Shep, but Shep is a much better defensive player. I would probably try to start with some offense for a change.

If we platooned, that second five would be painful to watch on offense.

So many superlatives to describe how good Pope is - and how good he will be. My favorite thing about Malik's game is his aggressive "dunk first - layup/tip-in second" mentality when he is close to the basket. Am thinking this mentality will become contagious to the team as Pope's playing time increases.
The Pontiff just may be that "go to guy" we all have been waiting for to emerge this season...

I don't know what it is with DA and the fourls. Most the time I cannot even see why he got the foul. He must reach in quickly and gets called ?? I also wonder if he is so quick he is getting anticipation calls from the Refs ?

I've been complaining about this for years. We never get that SF/PF 6'6+ guy that is looking to viciously dunk on someone. Finally we have someone who has been a star his whole life and chose to come to SDSU, seems like most of the other guys we get are late bloomers so they don't have all of the instincts yet, but this guy really does. I hate to sound like a prisoner of the moment, but he could end up being one of the greats at SDSU once the leash is let loose. And to your point about it maybe being contagious... In the beginning of the CSU game Shep totally tried to dunk on someone (he missed, but was fouled)... but that was the second time in his entire career I've seen him to attempt a dunk over somebody (the other time was @ Washington earlier this year)

Love Pope's offense, but he is currently a defensive liability. He's slow to react and seems confused. He'll soon overcome that and lead our team next year.

I've been talking about this the entire season. Zeigler picked it up today in the UT; even Fisher mentioned Pope by name. He has a tremendous amount of work to do defensively, particularly on picking up core team concepts such as post double-teams (his biggest current issue) and screen switching. The great news is that he has tremendous promise.
