The glue had his best offensive game, but unfortunately he made Avilla look like Akeem Olaguon. In his prime. shep and Spencer were pitiful. so happy yo see the Pope unleashed, reminds me of Polee's release. for all you that think this was just one good game for Pope, what part of 6 10 feathery soft touch, ball skills, ATHLETE don't you understand? It's interesting how the glue guy has become the golden standard for doing the "little things" when all he does is put his pants down and get whipped by opposing forwards like Avila. But of course, Fisher and his cult followers will try to spin it and blame O'brien shortcomings on Pope's help defense. Btw, Malik Pope is my hero. lol. We'll as an old warrior Jarhead, I've been accused of being in a cult but I also recognize leadership, success, team, family. Fish is the whole package and we are fortunate to have him. YOU, bandwagon fan, are no Fisher, you can't handle the Fisher (cult). lol... The grass isn't always better on the other side, yours must be quality astro-turf, snagged from the front porch of a quality Albuquerque single wide...

HOw would you like bringing the ball up against pressure from a rotation of Polee, shepherd, Pope and Chol..Allen? Fill in the other spots with anticipators and it is off to the races after steals or deflections..But that is a fantasty seeing the slow down once the ball is in possesion Fisher Offense

WS3 leads the team in points and is in the top 3 in most other categories. Talk of his benching is utter nonsense. And yet the bench is exactly where he was at crunch time in the closing 10 minutes the other night. Not sure anyone on here with half a brain is calling for his benching, which to me means he is not playing at all. Im sure when he is playing really on O and not a turning it over and shooting bricks like he was the other night, he will be out on the floor at crunch time. If he had even a decent game on O the other night, we would have won. Not saying he was THE reason we lost, but if he played even decent, cutting back on several unforced turnovers and making just a few of the missed short distance shots, we win the game.

Defense is half the game, and Shep is such a matchup nightmare on defense. He's a huge reason we're as good as we are defensively both this year and last year. However, can he please stop doing that damned Euro-step on every single fast break. He telegraphs it horribly and it almost never works. He needs to quit thinking so much and just put the ball in the bucket on those fast breaks... no need to be cute I've posted it before ... It's unfortunate, but Shep overcomplicates almost every finish at the rim ... Euro step, double and triple pump, fading left/right/back, finger roll, double pump dinger roll... And on and on. Almost every finish is soft, weak and not successful. He takes plays that should be, on a 1-10 (1 easy, 10 hardest) difficulty factor, a 3-4-5, and makes it a 9-10-11 (sic). Then there's the very questionable hands and handle. For a guy that drops-misses-loses SO MANY balls, he sure has the ball a lot trying to make something happen. He'll occasionally have a game where there is improvement in these areas, and you think ... He's turned the corner ... And then the next 3 games it's back where it was, or worse. He seems to be playing hard all the time, and doesn't seem to be selfish, so his mistakes are honest mistakes, but I think the mental aspect on O is off for some reason. As a player, on O You should do what you can do well, and not do what you dont do well... Simple, right?. He is frequently doing/attempting things on O you see he can do well on occasion, and he'll look like an NBA guy that time or game. Then it'll be just a nightmare the next play or game. When he is in that mode, he doesn't seem to understand he should dial it back. Which is why we are seeing him on the bench during crunch more often. I actually feel for him a bit. It has to be frustrating for him too. While I question certain aspects of his BB IQ at times, it's clear his everyday IQ is strong. He seems a bright, thoughtful guy. I guess we just keep hoping and pulling for him. If he ever really figures this stuff out and can deliver consistently, he'd be a monster for us. You wonder why he can't play more like Kawhi did. His size, athleticiism and skill set are not that different. Great post. Agree with everything you said.

Shep continues to be a disappointment. At what point do we just accept that he is average… and maybe I am giving him too much credit. Of course the loss to CSU is disappointing, but they shot lights out. Shep was 0-5 from the field and 2-4 from the line. I'm done… his minutes deserve to go elsewhere. Biggest disappointment this year... Winston Shepard is the team's best player. I can't understand the animus towards him. Warning: any so-called fans ripping WSIII around Section D, Row 13 will be politely asked to STFU tonight. #GoAztecs

Winston's game is rather enigmatic in that he loves when people doubt him, but is at his best when things are going his way and he just lets the game come to him. All he has to do is read this board and the first part of that equation is covered, now we just need to get that building into an uproar and get the guy a few easy buckets to get his confidence and swagger going. He's an asset to this team far more than he's a hindrance, anybody who can't see that has no business posting on a public forum with any form of credibility.

Simple for me. I just don't like it when he's running the point, or when he's the prime decision maker. Too many mental and physical mistakes at the point. He makes me cringe when he's handling the ball up there, or on a fast break.
Having said that, he's a beast on defense, really good down low on the post, good rebounder, becoming a better leader, and brings some swag that we need.

Winston Shepard is shooting 4-5. Rest of SDSU team is 1-10, including 0-9 in the paint.

Shepard plays very hard, but he has terrible footwork, poor shooting form and little court awareness. He can be effective defensively and on the boards but is a bad ballhandler and a walking turnover basically.

I like WSIII but he had to stop the turnovers. He must have had at least 7 tonight and most were really bad ones that never had to be turnovers. He must learn that he does not have a quick step like Pope has.

Biggest disappointment this year... Alright, after 6 pages of posts and a game later to an inferior opponent, I will respond. I never stated that WSIII is awful and he did not deserve a place on this team. I merely stated that I thought he was average after never living up to expectation. Yes, as a 5 star recruit and 3 years of experience, I expect more. Anybody on this site that says that they did not have higher aspirations for WSIII is not being honest with themselves. I should have clarified with my original statements that I was largely disappointed with his offense. Defensively, I realize he causes mismatches and plays at a level that changes offenses… a nuance that may be difficult to measure as a statistic. I am disappointed because I wanted so badly for him to have a breakout year. Stating my thoughts on a website where "SDSU fans have their say," should be welcomed and not condemned. Thanks to the many of you who understood what I was getting at and did not question my loyalty to our Aztecs. I love this school and our programs more than I should… forgive me for getting passionate with my feelings. I thought that was why boards like this existed. Go Aztecs!

I've also been chastised for expressing my dismay at the play of WS a few times on this board. I can't stand to watch him play, he's a TO machine, and gets on my nerves. But obviously we need his rebounding. Too bad this isn't like football where you have separate offensive and defensive units, where WS could just play defense. Sent from my SM-T900 using proboards

Did WS get beat by a coach when he was little for making slam dunks? Why is that guy so soft around the net?

Now watching the recording of the game. First half, 2:13 left.....30-19 Aztecs in front. Nice bounce on Quinn's 3-pointer huh? As much as I like Shep.......he def needs to turn down the T/O's! They kill momentum! A lot of red seats not filled? The fellas ain't that hard to watch!
