Anybody heard how AQ's health is? He took a very nasty fall last night driving for a shot and was under cut by a Ball St. player. It looked like he fell right on his hip.I did see him near the bench at the end of the game.

Fish said hip pointer last night in the presser. I'd imagine that they will do an X-ray to make sure it's not fractured. Hopefully we will have him back by beginning of conference play.

He was in a lot of pain behind the bench . Will see what the doctors say . Chol , who re injured his bad knee , on the fall last week did not play in the second half. Was happy to see the improved play of Zabo , Williams , Allen , even saw few minutes from Pope. ( he had an incredible move on one attempt , plus block and Reb. ) They all could use some more PT , at least in the next two or three games. They have a lot of upside and potential to help this team.

Here's a little about hip pointers: www.sportsmd.com/SportsMD_Articles/id/333/n/hip_pointer.aspx#sthash.555nu9Ks.dpbsSeems likely that they'll do some tests to make sure it's only that. Then they'll likely rest him a couple days and see how he feels tomorrow or Tuesday. Maybe. like they did with Angelo, let him give it a try and evaluate during the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see them rest him until the Air Force game though. (Considering he's still recovering from the broken bone in his hand.) Conveniently, Williams got a lot of minutes last night and looked pretty good. I think he and Zabo are ready to step in. (Nice to have some depth!)

Our schedule does not look that difficult for the 2 weeks Riverside , Christian . Then MW : AFA home 1/31 , At Fresno , . Then important stretch Home: Lobos 1/6 , 1/14 AT WYOMING ( Very BIG ROAD GAME ) , Home Rebels 1/17 , AT AFA 1/20 (ROAD) , and AT CSU ( VERY IMPORTANT) 1/24.
So the team has until 1/6 to let both AQ and Chol rest, rehab, and get ready for the important three weeks of games 1-6 Lobos to 1/24 AT CSU .
Use the next two weeks to try to get Polee going and further develop Kell, Allen , Zabo , Williams even Pope . They all showed a lot of potential and could make contributions. Also decision on Zylan playing or red shirting .

D. Allen played great last night. Loved the two pick-and-rolls for him, one of which included an excellent pass by Winston (who had a great night, too). He finishes really well.

I'm really hoping we get a chance to play Pope more the next two games. With Chol hurting it seems to make sense to get him more minutes to see if he can settle in and play, albeit against weak competition. I haven't given up hope that Pope will start to gel but when asked about his minutes last night Fisher said that winning the game is still the deciding factor. Pope made a couple of nice blocks on defense but he still got caught out of position. Williams had 3 TOs last night which doesn't help him get more minutes though he did play more minutes than Zabo last night. If Q is out for the next game or two Williams is going to get more time on the court. When he has been in there I really don't see him being greatly outplayed by either Kell or Zabo at the point.

Allen has surprised me this year at how much he has improved. He is the surprise player to me this year. I love his contributions.

The team has 13 quality players . So with each injury is the time for each reserve to show what they can do . The position we are thinnest at is PF and C . especially if Chol needs extra rest . Winston may need to slide down there or even Pope , who really prefers SF or SG , but if it gets him some PT all the better .Fortunately the next 4 games we do not play teams with a lot of talent at C or PF .
The next 4 games are time for Polee , Kell , Zabo , Allen , Williams to really show what they can do but not try to do too much . Some times we see flashes of great play by the guys and then we see some mistakes as they really try to push it . Confidence , gaining experience is paramount , relax and let the game come to them , the talent is there .Hope those 5 guys get additional PT .
Interesting to see if the decision by the Ball State coach to have Spencer shoot the FT's when AQ was hurt will help Spencer get in the groove at FT's , he was 6 for 6 last night . He was challenged and came through . Another confidence builder , and very important going forward if it lasts.

AQ is MVP tonight and has been by far our best shooter. I find it rather ironic that Fisher did not even know who the guy was when he came here on his own a couple years ago. Funny how the coaching staff had zero plans to have the guy play at all here. However, with his great play he deserved PT and I feel in the games he has been able to play has been the best or one of the best players on our team. He has been working with a shooting coach on his technique and it has paid off fabulously. AQ credits this coach with changing his game and giving him the confidence in his shot....

AQ is suited up and will play tonight Funny thing is Shelton spoke prior to the game & basically said AQ is between 80 & 90% & probably wouldn't play, or play much, during the game. Then AQ comes out & is the PotG!
Got a little nervous when they had to take him back to the locker room when he first came out, and actually thought he wouldn't play again. But good to see him able to get back out there.
Dude is a WARRIOR! His injured hip makes you forget about his injured wrist, which STILL isn't 100%. What's he going to do next - sprain an ankle & tear a rotator & come out & score 25?
Kudos to the kid!! If he could become more consistent from deep he'd clearly be very, very dangerous! Solid all around player.

As with many guys the second year you play with the Aztecs you see major improvement . Pleased to see AQ come through . Just do not try to do too much . Some players grow/develop into their role . Jamaal , K.Leonard , DJ , X , Polee (last year ) and the beat goes on . AQ is quite a story from walk on to scholarship , to starter . Also worry about Chol who did not play much at Arizona, red shirt season , rusty , now injured . We need help down low as we do not have other true reserves at PF or C .

AQ puts the swag in swagtec nation - we need some emotional icing to go with our Joe Friday cake.
