I think JJO is overappreciated by Fisher, and underappreciated by the fans. I like him as a player but I think he gets too many minutes. With all the talent on this roster we should be giving someone else some of his minutes Z will take some of those minutes. He is getting the minutes he does because we need another PF active.

Coach Fisher was on 1090 last night for an hour 6 to 7 . He talked and answered questions . Felt the team came back well in the second half , against a team similar to the Aztecs . Cincy does not lose many games in their building . Coach felt the team took too many threes even though many had good looks , but the key thing was we did not make enough . He would like to see the ball go inside more often and more movement to set up shots . He also felt the To's really hurt the team . But does not expect line up changes . Zylan decision is at least 10 days away on if he will red shirt . AQ had his stiches removed recently , should have better movement as he continues to recover but gives the guys a spark and experience . JJ is still the high value guy . He still likes Pope and Zabo , just felt match ups were not there in CINCY game ( I think they deserve some PT) and he rarely plays guys in the second half that do not play the first half ? Coach feels Chol really runs the floor well , could play Saturday but is still rusty from Red shirt and reserve play at Arizona . Coach feels our centers need more foot work on defense to avoid all the fouls being called on them . Down low is our thinnest area for reserves . Recruiting trying to more nationally for 2016 but CA is still our base area . Looking at numerous guys who are Juniors this year . Scheduling for OOC , is very important . Trying to get more quality home and away games but not that easy with teams who do not think they need to travel to SDSU . Has talked with Alford at UCLA , but does not see anything soon , Does enjoy series with Arizona . Next hour show will be 1/8 . But he is also doing the Fox Sports San Diego TV show , similar to Rocky show .

I came to the Cincinnati thread for that purpose, but left by half time. We weren't playing great, but we were in the game against a good school 3000 miles away from home, but the criticism had become so nasty and prevalent that I shut off my computer and watched the game "by myself" instead of with my fellow Aztec "fans". You might want to take the approach I've adopted regarding the "Game Threads." I don't read any post that was made while the game was going on. I start with the messages that were posted only after the game finished. Still a lot of negative posts, but at least the posts aren't blasting one player or another on every missed shot or less than perfect play.

I believe one of the other chat boards nicknamed this board "Armchair Mesa" Pretty funny actually. I respect the guys on but insofar as some may think criticism of the football program is completely unwarranted, I really disagree. Yeah there's too much criticism of football here perhaps but to turn to the topic of this thread, SDSU hoops is vastly different. Our BB team has been extremely well managed for 15 years. Probably a 9 on a 10 scale overall. In contrast, football was managed at about a 3 level when Tom Craft was in charge and at a 1 level when his successor was around and although it's improved tremendously, I'd still put it at only about a 5. As to those going ballistic about the basketball team right now, if football was their foremost interest, they would have gone insane Chuck Long ago.

I think people have unrealistic expectations for both the football and basketball programs and they react poorly when reality smacks them in the face. Football - Rocky is about the best coach a G5 conference team can get without having to fear the coach bolting for greener pastures. It was a friggin' miracle that Petersen stayed at Boise for as long as he did. Sadly, something has to give. I find it hard to blame the AD, the school President, or even the Conference leadership. They're doing the best they can with the hand they were dealt. The big boys want a larger share of the pie, so teams are going to get screwed. Basketball - Expectations are so high because of the strength of the recruiting class, but the reality is that the team is loaded with very young players and what are really just roll players. SDSU lost all of its rebounding and scoring in the off season and have yet to find a way to replace it. We want a Jamaal or a Xavier to be on this team; but, as of right now, there is not one. Every single player on the team is limited on the offensive end. The better offensive players are limited athletically, the more athletic players can't shoot. The Aztecs went to the round of 32 in 2012/2013 after losing 8 MW CONFERENCE GAMES. Take a deep breath. Don't feed the trolls. Don't argue with people who hate ESPN3 (even though they are SO WRONG) I agree completely regarding basketball but must take umbrage at a couple other comments. Regarding Rocky being as good as it gets for a G5 school without having to worry about the coach leaving, I immediately thought of Jeff Bower. Bower had 14 consecutive winning seasons at USM during which he went 6-4 in bowl games and then he left by what I heard was his interest and that of the university. Rocky still has an entire decade of winning seasons if he's going to catch Bower. Until things went sour his last few years, Sonny Lubick similarly had a string of success at CSU that Rocky's work at SDSU pales in comparison with and Lubick was never hired away by a big boy school either. I could think of other examples but you get the point. My opinion? Rocky's performance is satisfactory for now. However, I view the constant unqualified support by many as being the accumulation of ammunition to be used in the event the Aztecs still once again fail to win 10 games next year. ESPN3? Nobody is ever going to channel surf and find a game on that channel so at a minimum, having our games broadcast there substantially reduces publicity for the program and although I have no evidence to support my suspicion, I think that has to negatively impact recruiting.

We're the ones who think it's cool to watch games on the internet, but Fisher is the one who has to recruit. I'll always remember what he said before the season began, "ESPN3 ain't TV."

Do you know what else Jeff Bower and Sonny Lubick have in common? They last coached in 2007. Times have changed A LOT. The Big 12 still had 12 teams in 2007. The non-Jesus Big East still existed. Why not mention LaVell Edwards (who retired in 2000)? He was at BYU and won a national title! I'm sorry, but too much has changed in the last 8 years. As far as ESPN 3 goes, teens are just as likely (I think) to watch sports on their XBox or Playstation as they are on the cable channels that most people don't get. They can just as easily flip through games on their fancy interweb computron devices. Steve Fisher might not understand this because he's 1,000 years old. Most people don't get ESPNU, ESPNNEWS, or CBSSPORTSNETWORK without paying for some extra sports package through their cable provider. I think I speak for a lot of people who aren't willing to give more money to TV providers. Do you know what impacts recruiting the most? Winning. Keep winning and they will get more exposure.

We have been winning so is ESPN3 our reward for doing that? Parents have a lot of influence in suggesting where their kids play. I highly doubt they're going to check out Xbox or Playstation if they're interested in watching sports. For example, is that where Josh Davis knew of us or did Fisher have to go visit his mom to recruit him?

Exchange of ideas and theories, half baked and all makes for an interesting site. Who wants to wave pom poms from a chair..Personally, I like reading all points of view. Never to old to learn

I have been in business for many years dealing with the public, and there is one very important fact you need to realize when you do that. It is exactly the same on this opinion board. When you deal with the public you are going to have opinions that run the full spectrum from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. And, if you haven't learned that yet then you haven't dealt much with anyone on a regular basis.
So, putting this thread up will get you all of the above. There is no reason to be surprised by anyone's response.

Yeah, let's have a message board where no one ever expresses their passion or opinions, good idea.
Bottom line is this team is still finding itself, has key positions manned by freshman (PG) and is missing key potential pieces in Cheatham and apparently Pope who I am thinking maybe they are going to try and get a redshirt for this year?
I am not sure why Pope isn't playing, he seems hugely talented.
