Given the many assets of the San Diego region (weather, population, transportation, the Coryell/Gilbert legacy, etc.), Aztec football can rightfully be called underperforming. On the other hand, Colorado State simply does not enjoy the kind and degree of assets that we have. Seen in that light, the Lubick era was exceptional. Struggling to reach 20,000 average attendance is probably about what can be expected in Fort Collins. Notice the issue of not being able to attract big name schools. We seem to have that same problem, though I continue to think that we may be able to turn that around, while CSU probably cannot. It would take a lot of crow-eating for CSU to leave the MWC and join the Big Sky, so they probably will continue to limp along. I'm thinking that the same could be said for Wyoming, New Mexico, and even San Jose State. It's a matter of preferring to live in the worst house in Beverly Hills rather than the nicest one in San Pedro. AzWm San Pedro rules. You old

Sincere question: Should we be hoping to see this happen? It’s a given that the weak sisters of the MWC will begin to die off eventually anyway. It seems to me everybody in the conference is sort of waiting for it to begin before taking any action toward an alternative. If the attrition were to start now might it be the impetus that we, Boise State, UNLV and Fresno need to organize Airport Meeting 2? Or would hastening the death of the MWC put us at greater risk?

If we are in a pig sty, we will get muddy. OTOH, we would also shine like a diamond in a goat's patoot. [/metaphor alert]. Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards

And to think it's our administration that gets accused of thinking small.
Oh, that's right, how could I forget -- the front range is holding us back.
Go Aztecs!

Being stuck in a conference with schools like CSU and Wyoming whose achievements and ceiling for success have been and will always be very limited sure as hell isn't helping SDSU move up the ladder of success.

Hair knows this goat conference is going nowhere, other than possibly shrinking as you say. We have the best combination of largest market and now rising sports programs that the goats have. You'd think he'd give us favorable treatment for conference exposure through the media like he did with Utah and BYU, but no. He needs us, but the last thing he wants to see is us getting too big for our britches. So it's in his best interest that he keeps us suppressed as much as the P5 does.

we have enough to worry about with our own program as the stipends issue becomes real . There could also be other rules starting in Jan 2015 . Let's worry about winning the MW

I think Zeigler meant every single word of that article. Of course he did. Any Aztec alum and/or long time fan that doesn't loathe that scumbag is not a fan of the Aztec program. Hence, tshirt fans love him.

You realize that CSU could claim that SDSU is holding them back academically? CSU and SDSU are both tier 1 schools, just a few of the handful in the Donner Party Conference. They also are quite close in the various academic rankings. So, sure, they could say it, and it would be nonsensical.

Ranking schools academically is always somewhat subjective, and there are a number of different academic rankings. That said, I think that we all would be very happy if SDSU was ranked 28 positions higher by US News and had the 3rd ranked school of veterinary medicine. Nonsensical? Maybe, if you don't think academics count for much. I think that we all can be proud that our school has risen significantly in it's academic standing. In fact, I think that by most metrics we can say that we are 3rd in the MWC academically. But, there are 2 MWC schools that can say that they are ahead of us academically, by any reasonable measurement. And yes, they both happen to be in Colorado, if that matters. Go Aztecs!

If we had the number 3 Vet School, I'd wonder when we became the state's Aggie and where the hell they moved the campus to. Air Force is tough to classify because of their limited mission, viz. killing people by air versus providing a liberal education in manifold disciplines and in various degree levels. Smart people go there != great school. And, of course, your entire argument has no purpose because there is no shared research in this conference - of course there is shared training of St. Bearnards carrying little kegs of spirits to help revive people lost on the faces of mountains - and blaming the next best research uni for your academic program's protracted slide makes no sense; where, complaining about a program that doesn't win anything but girl's volleyball when those programs do act in concert and have an impact on each other in that realm is a completely reasonable train of thought. There is something about mountains that makes people start defending the white bread schools in their adoptive state particularly as a complete non sequitur to the topic-at-hand. You might be retired.

Hence, tshirt fans love him. Dude was told to go up on the mesa and write a story about what folks on the campus have to say about football. He did. Things changed. There was a huge movement among the faculty to dump football. He wrote about it. Why hate? Why hate someone doing their job?

He's a stanford grad, soccer fan slumming it down here. If you think for one second that that article was just some journalistic exercise then you are deluding yourself. The SOB wrote an article that he has never backed-down from, nor explained/rationalized seeking to severely cripple your university and you want to hold hands with him because he writes a sweet article about Steve Fisher every late fall? That's insanity.

He wrote about it. After Moses was told to go up on the mountain, he returned as a reporter. You act as though that's all Zeigler was.
