That's a blow. I'm pretty sure we won't use all our scholarships for the 2016 class either now that we have so many scholarships open.

I know he didn't progress like many thought after he got going last summer but this late in the game with so many scholarships open I don't think it was us.

Complete guess, but I'm thinking the coaches maybe wanted him to redshirt this year, and with Nolan (and potentially MJ Cage or transfers) coming in next year, he didn't see as many minutes available for him as before.

With Jones gone and now 2 open Scholarships, I could SDSU getting a mid-year transfer if there are any worth getting. He wasn't going to play much this year but we'll be hurting in 2 years if we don't get someone to replace his size soon.

Could it be an academic thing? Now that he is officially enrolling maybe something came up? I'm at a loss for words, unless we're getting ready to announce a couple signings that caused him to change his mind?? Just doesn't make sense at this stage, although I have seen a few other similar announcements. Usually though, when someone isn't enrolling it's because they didn't qualify afterall.
It did just hit me that Fish talked about Hemsley last week but not Jones, but thought at the time it was just because Hemsley was expected to fight for a starting job & Jones wasn't it.
We REALLY need Narain to reclassify now.

Zeigler on 1090 today . Aztec coaches felt betrayed by BJ . They were willing to wait for him to get cleared to play , most major programs will let a player go if the recruit does not get cleared by the end of April . This summer BJ called to say he had finally passed SAT , then in the next phrase he asked to have his release and the coaches were shocked . Timing was terrible they had passed on numerous 5 th year seniors including Lonnie Jackson (SG) now at BSU . Could have also cost Aztecs the forward who went from San Fran to Arizona , Williams to the Zags and others . Zeigler was asked if the coaches think there may have been some "influence " from other schools . His answer ,there is no proof but look at some of the schools involved . Zeigler is not sure BJ's dad agrees with his sons decision . BJ will not return calls . In Zeigler's opinion BJ may need an understanding staff to prosper , and that could even take 3 to 4 years. Aztecs have not officially given him his official release . Currently the staff is very bust with the evaluation periods for recruiting and working with the guys in summer school . They will have more time to go over BJ's case in August

I'm not sure who coined the phrase: "How would you like your career to be dependent on the whims of an 18-year old boy?"

I'm not sure who coined the phrase: "How would you like your career to be dependent on the whims of an 18-year old boy?" My favorite quote in the Ziegler interview was about dirty schools: that would be UTEP& Tim Floyd + Providence, and I would add Memphis and St Johns. St Johns is under NCAA sanctions. All schools could have sold Buddah a bill of goods that he would get PT, when in reality most schools don't have scholarships available. He thinks he is better than he is, and we will see in the fall. It sounds like SDSU told him he could learn from Sky and Chol, redshirt, hit the gym and be ready for 2016, when we lose Sky, Chol, Shep and Pope. Ziegler alluded to his parents who could have provided better guidance.

Believe Zeigler was asked if it was St John's( the radio interviewer D. Smith 's alma matter) but he said No . Think it was Syracuse . Aztecs still have the rights as to what schools they will sign off on , they are very busy now with recruiting for 2016, so maybe a decision in August . Little doubt the staff is angry the way things were done to them and the timing , as they saved a spot for BJ and passed over opportunities . Zeigler very impressed with the JAM practice center after his tour and very impressed with Nolan Narain and his family . He has talked with them . He thinks Nolan has taken all the classes he would need to reclassify . If he does Narain is intelligent enough to know he needs to work on his skills and his frame to be ready for 2016 , so red shirting is his idea .Decision coming in August .
