Actually, I believe he goes by "Buddah" rather than the spelling used for the Buddhist Buddha, FWIW.

This from JimmytheAztec today. ".... had the off chance opportunity to talk with a member of the Aztec coaching staff today...when asked about EA, he replied that we no longer recruiting him since we landed Brodrick...and that the coaching staff has already told EA this when he returned from Ghana... Keep walking people...nothing more to see here..." Read more: aztecmesa.proboards.com/thread/38595/ernest-aflakpui?page=5#ixzz3ChXbylR9

Scout’s Notes:
Brodricks teases you with his potential. He has excellent size and athleticism for a high school forward, and has shown flashes over the past few years. If he ever reaches his considerable potential, he will be a star. He runs the floor well and finishes around the low block. College Projection:

Loads of talent , he went from being one of the top recruits when he was younger to average to really turning it on this past summer when he realized coaches were making final offers for college scholarships. As noted earlier in the posts . High ceiling /potential when he is motivated and needs to work on consistency . Not always easy when you are not playing against other quality tall players every week . Will be interesting to see how he performs his senior year in HS . Most important stay healthy .

8 guys were at the first Summer Session , have not seen the list of those who attended . Believe SS 2 should have both freshman there , do not know if Malik will be there or rest his HS injuries. Also noticed Winston is playing on a team abroad , approved by Fisher. Max is now officially announced as a transfer , so he could be there if enrolled in SS2 . Could be a great time to evaluate BJ's skills , he did not get much competition during HS against taller players and was the "other guy" with Metu ( higher rated USC recruit) on the court . Time for Zylan and BJ to show what they can do . The decision to red shirt needs to be an agreement between BJ and the coaches ,together , need permission from both .Will be interesting to hear the input from Zylan and others about red shirting, both pros and cons .Also do the coaches see BJ as a 5 or 4 or both? We lose both centers Spencer and Chol, after the 2015-16 season. As of today guess is Chol is back up at the 5 , Zylan at the 4 or 3 and Allen at the 3 or 2 . Do believe you can start the season as a red shirt and you can be moved to an active roster player at any time . Declaration is not needed until After the X game . So there is plenty of time to evaluate BJ .

Is Buddah in summer school now? has anyone confirmed the red shirt? Don't think a RS decision will be "confirmed" until November.
As much as I'd love to see him RS & develop for a year, I don't see it happening. At least unless we are confident we'll find someone to step in at the 5 next year & start (e.g. senior transfer or if Zylan grows 2 inches & develops into a post defender). I think BJ will need to see SOME court time this year if he's going to be counted on to be in the rotation in '17. Even limited minutes is better than doing nothing but playing on the scout team when it comes to development.
But you never know...

Aztecs have 12 guys on scholarship right now, Hoetzel will have to sit bringing it down to 11 players. If BJ RS's, that's 10 scholarship players. If Narain reclassify's he expressed interest in RS (he said he would wait until August). We could play the season with 10 scholarship players which may not be good if anyone goes down hurt.

Another guy that looks like he could use a few cheeseburgers & milk shakes! Get that guy to the training table! O.K. we probably don't have one, right?

Agreed, and another reason I don't see him RS'ing. You can get by with 10 (see UNLV & others last year) but not ideal. Chol gets hurt or is limited by fouls, etc., like last year on occasion, and you're forced to go small or use BJ to rest Sky.
Given there are 2 guys ahead of him I don't see him playing anywhere near the minutes Sky did as a FR, but could see him getting a few games where he played 10+. Will be one of the many interesting things to follow this fall!

I believe each of the coaching staffs get an incidental food budget which they can use any way they'd like. Some are doing snacks; others occasional meals I believe. Maybe Fish should work out a deal with In & Out & just supply his boys with those! Especially Pope & BJ!

the Aztec coaches and BJ have until after the first X game, about first week of November to make any formal decision . Decide what helps the team and BJ going forward . Pretty much a decision as to if he learns more as the third option at C or PF ,on the active squad .Or is it better to gain muscle learn the system in practice as red shirt, then have a full 4 years with the key being the need for some one to play the 5/C in 2016 . By the first week of November we could know if we have signed a quality guy to play the 5/C . Also remember Both BJ and the coaches have to agree on Red Shirt . If BJ says no , as did Jamaal then it is a no . Believe if you start the OOC season after the first X game ( you can play in that game ) that you can red shirt . Also if you are red shirting and a player is injured , they can pull the red shirt and move you to active status . Bottom line the Coaches and BJ have at least July , August , September , and October, to evaluate what is best . Would have been nice to have a transfer who was a center or we see what the coaches can do in recruiting for 2016 or transfers options.

I think he needs to play to get D-1 game experience, otherwise we have an extremely inexperienced front court in 2016. He may get pushed around, he may get beaten up a little, but he'll learn a lot more by playing in games than by just practicing. Our need of big guys is becoming pretty glaring after this year, even with Narain in the fold. we need at least uno mas for depth and/or a potential injury situation.
