Y'all need to stop whining about Rizzo. Seriously. He's got 8 homeruns, great. His OBP is .256. TWO FIFTY SIX! Jesus. I know he's young, but it's not like he's a sure thing...he's far far from it.

If you're asking me who I'd rather have, it's Rizzo. But it's a lot closer than a few of you act like it is. The Padres have made bad decisions for a long time, I get it. Look at the rotation and then look at 1B and tell me which one is a bigger area of need.

We got robbed. We were the little kids that were taken advantage of by the adults as they stole our stuff and gave us a few marbles as compensation.
After all that talent we traded away we've got very little to show for it.
I used to be a Padres fan. A big Padres fan. But the decline since the World Series has turned me against the organization. They're not trying to win World Series titles. They're just trying to be competitive. And they're failing at that!

Look at the rotation and then look at 1B and tell me which one is a bigger area of need. I like Andrew Cashner. Quite a bit. But no, I'm not going to stop discussing this trade, which was bull$#!+ from the beginning. |

The same day Cashner went 6 innings giving up 1 run to beat Giants. Cashner also singled in a perfect day at the plate to start the winning rally. You have to give up quality to get quality. How soon many forget that Rizzo was not a sure thing when we traded him. He had a very forgettable major league debut. He hit .148 and looked totally over matched. I find it funny that some of the same folks posting that Rizzo was a total bust are now complaining that we got took by trading this "total bust". 8 home runs are nice but hitting .211 mitigates that value some. The best way to compare him to Yonder is using wOBA. That applies values to all outcomes. 2013 wOBA (through 4/28).353 Rizzo .331 Alonzo It is very pretty close. Alonso closes the HR gap by many more doubles and a better BA/OBP. Alonzo is probably a better type of hitter for Petco Park. But Rizzo has a great upside being only 23 years old. |

I laughed at the thought of Rizzo being a "bust". Hitter friendly league or not, he DOMINATED in the minors when we got him, and MOST major leaguers struggler in their first call up. Mike Schmidt and Troy Glaus are two sluggers who come to mind. Of course he is going to need some seasoning. We both know his BA and OBP will increase as he gains experience and familiarity with pitchers and parks. He has perennial All Star written all over him. He has that pedigree. You don't move kids with his resume for Andrew Cashners. We'll continue to monitor this deal through the years, and see how it goes. Bill has never criticized a move of the Padres, he is the most biased effing homer ever so I don't put much stock into his retorts. |

We didn't trade Rizzo for Alonso. There's nothing wrong with accumulating MULTIPLE good players, Bill. Alonso could have been acquired in the Latos deal (which I didnt have a problem with), and remember...he has some experience in LF. |

I think it's pretty close (would prefer Rizzo by a little, even with the make up of the Padres roster), and when you look at that make up it's clear that starting pitching was an area of need. Other deals or contracts seem much more objectionable, that's all. I think complaining about Street or Quentin's contracts makes more sense. You have a strange way of communicating that puzzelment. You responded to the trade thusly Now, THIS...I like. Alot. I said the SIGNING, not the trade. I was happy with the trade. To me, it was low risk and we were obtaining a guy who had some legit right handed pop. And at the time, yes a history of injuries. But who did we trade, Simon Castro? I didn't mind. I was hoping he could provide the offense we were sorely lacking and while I knew he'd miss some time, I was hoping for 400-450 at bats. Which is what he averaged in 2010 and 2011 in Chicago ( with about 500-520 Plate appearances) What we got was 284 AB's (340 or so PA's), and more extended DL stints. Then paid him $9M a year through 2015 to play LF with bad knees in spacious Petco. I'm sorry, I don't get that. As cheap as the Padres brass has been, to spend $9M on one player with that medical sheet is not a great maximization of value. Nice try tho. |

You didn't link that one like all the others, but I may have said that. I questioned paying $7M for a closer at the time I'm sure, given the success San Diego has/had at building a bullpen in a very cost effective manner. I thought they could better utilize the money on the rotation or the offense but it is what it is. How do I feel about Street today? He's pitched well when healthy, and is only under contract for one more season. Nobody can be upset with that, son. |
