"As good as we were as a team, I have to start with Jamaal," SDSU coach Steve Fisher said. "For those that only look at a stat line, you don't appreciate what he brings to this team. He's the soul of our program. He willed everybody to be ready. "If you're not in that locker room, if you're not on that practice floor, if you're not on that bus, if you're not in the hotel, if you're not on that plane, you can't fully appreciate what he brings to this team," Fisher added. "He played the best defense he's played since he's been at San Diego State. And that permeated through everybody. We said we were going to guard them, we were not going to give them easy looks, and that's what we did to a man." scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=330260021He may frustrate you at times, but we are a better team with him. Stop bashing, get on board, and enjoy the ride.

Dude did not give Tony Snell an inch. Made his shadow look like a slacker.

Objective opinions of his weaknesses are not bashing him. All fans have thoughts about every player and with him being the best on the team, he will have more that want to talk about him. What Coach said was what most of what you call "bashers" were wanting to see out of him. He stepped up and took a leader role, and you have to give him props for it.

I think we are better team with him. he didnt force much before the 10 sec mark on shot clock today.
he didnt kill possesions with poor decisions.
still not 100% sure this team can make a run in postseason with him as the best player. My concern is the amount of possesions he cost the team, and momentum he kills. however he was perfect today. And his will to win ajd reboujding cant be questioned

Saw it.....still saw Jamaal turn the ball over 5 times by himself and drive into traffic and get himself stuck.....he made some nice plays, but per usual did more than a few really dumb things too. Par for the course with Jamaal......just gotta live with it and hope the good far outweighs the bad.
......but he did play pretty spectacular defense, so he deserves credit for that.

Think how valuable Jamaal would be if he got the turnovers under control. He was better today at dishing out, but still had his one on three moments.

No saying that he doesn't have faults, as it is not difficult to find issues with any college basketball player, but if you think some people on here are "objective" in their opinions about Jamaal, then you are not paying attention. The point is that like it or not, he is critical to the heartbeat of our team. That is not going to change, so you're either on the bus or off of it.

Of course Fisher is right, but if Jamaal were just 7 feet tall, he would be a much better player.
He should stay another year on the Mesa to see if he has a growth spurt.

Pointing out that JF leads the league in turnovers and is among the top 10 turnover machines in the nation -- as well as pointing out that he has a nation-leading 6 technical fouls -- is not bashing. It's just observing.
JF played his best game of the year, IMO. And, yes, I agree with Fish. Franklin was absolutely stifling on defense. He played under control. He took only 4 treys, which is about the right number, instead of his usual 6 to 8. He only took one forced shot from behind the arc. The others came after several passes on offense, after which JF was wide open.
JF needs to play like this every game. He still dribbled himself into trouble a few times and had 5 turnovers (way too many). If he can get those two habits under control, I'll be thrilled. And so will Fish, I'm sure.

I think this board has been pretty level-headed when it comes to Jamaal.
I think this board has been pretty level-headed when it comes to noticing Jamaal's faults.
He's a controversial player. There's no gray area with him. You don't either love him or hate him. You love him, then hate him, then love him, then hate him, then love him, then hate him ... it goes on and on.
To be ignorant in regards to his foolish decisions is to do him a disservice. To love him at all costs is to do him a disservice. We can only treat him as Fish would treat him -- probably a careful balance of both.
But that doesn't mean we can't tear him a new asshole from time to time because he frustrates the hell out of us.

It should be noted that that one forced shot from behind the arc came with about 9 seconds left on the shot clock, so I gave him a pass on that one (and of course the shot clanked). Overall as a team they did a great job of working the ball around on offense and not trying to throw up the first bad look they got. I would have liked to see them run more off of screens, but the ball movement was pretty good nonetheless. Jamaal in particular did a much better job in that regard today.......still, 5 turnovers and at least three more where he tried to force something that wasn't there......and a few more yet where his teammates managed to bail him out.

there is little doubt he has a very high motor, but would prefer he and the other guys would shoot less threes. UNM did not perform well but their guys really move with out the ball. Jamaal spent a lot of energy chasing Snell all over the court

It's just killing some of you to give the guy credit. Fisher has to answer these questions because he's bombarded by them all the time. Jamaal is a dynamic player. His potential is through the roof. But, have you ever had a boss that treated you like $#!+ because he saw potential in you? Jamaal needs to limit his flaws (a lot), and maximize his strengths. Right now, he's got a long way to go. Sorry for being realistic.
