Sorry, but I just have to say it. **** the BE. Fans of those schools are now coming out of the woodwork to say they never promised us a rose garden, or western division. **** them and **** the Front Rangers too. We desperately need to create a new conference. Agree about the "new conference" part. As for "**** the BE," it's all semantics. If we were to end up in a "new" conference, it would probably have to include almost every team that's headed for the BL anyway. I think SGF is referring to the league commish and eastern powers. O think the western schools would form a new conference if the saw it the way we do. Add in the best of the MWC and also UNLV and it'd be a media draw. Sent from my DROID RAZR using proboards

That is what I meant, Stu. From what I can tell, it's primarily the schools in the northeast that just don't want us. They seem to think that they can put together a perfectly good conference just by encouraging the likes of UMass, Villanova, VCU or whomever to start FBS football programs. And they could be right. All those schools are very good in hoops and hoops is huge in that part of the country. The indifference to SDSU seems to be of pretty recent vintage too and I suspect that's because of the roomers about how much money the C7 are going to earn in TV rights all on their own.
The key is to emphasize football since outside the northeast, hoops just doesn't mean all that much. Which is why UNLV and UNM are probably not good charter members of a new conference. I'm thinking something like this.
Definites BYU Boise SDSU Fresno
Probables Houston SMU (they're a matched pair, with SMU being inferior but having megabucks)
Possibles Tulsa (if UH & SMU wanted Tulsa, which DOES emphasize football) AFA (we'd be stuck with their Olys but their nat'l visibility would be worth it) USF UCF (they're a matched pair now and would bring a big TV area & mucho recruiting) Nevada (depends on what happens now post-Ault & Boise would want them) Hawaii (yeah it's a long trip but a great destination, they love football & good recruiting)
Oops, forgot to add this. Notice all of the schools except AFA are located in major cities in their state and even AFA isn't far from Denver. So if anybody might wonder about USM or ECU, forget it. Both are great football schools but are located in podunk towns a few hundred miles from the nearest big city and nobody in that big city cares about them.
