Bill Walton just gushed about Jamaal and the "dunk of the year" during his commentary of the Arizona Oregon game.

It was featured on PTI today. Both Kornheiser and Wilbon were underwhelmed by it.
I can't disagree. It seemed like a selfish move to me.

It might have been underwhelming if it occured in an all-star game or a blow-out but given it was done in the middle of a close game that the Aztecs won by three, underwhelming it was not but more like a critical make.

Whatever. He could have dished it to a couple different guys for easy layups. Instead he decided to show off. Does he get charged a shot attempt for the ricochet off the backboard?

Sorry, but that dunk vaulted us into the spot light, whatever you think it was, just look around you, SDSU is on everyone's lips. When was the last time we were ever featured this much across the entire nation? I mean this was big time pub for us, worth more than money.

SMH at Aztec fans who are still accusing Jamaal of being a selfish player

You must be kidding, right..? "easy layups"?? There was no easy layup in that fast-break play. Nothing about this game was easy. Jamaal was only trying to score, not "show off." If he doesn't slam it, he likely gets fouled.

I must not be able to see the guys who are open for easy layups.
THis was a brilliant, high percentage play.

You should all listen to yourselves. You would all call Ricky Henderson selfish for hitting a home run to lead off a game rather than letting the clean up hitter drive him in.

Steve Fisher:
“I watched it on the bus going home, watched it four or five times,” said Steve Fisher, Franklin’s 67-year-old head coach, “and he did a great job setting it up. He had them spread and he knew exactly where he was going with it. They parted perfectly for him to make it work.
“That should not happen every game, 10 times a game. But I’ve always been someone who gives players freedom to make basketball plays.”
And if he had missed?
“If he had missed it, he would have looked awful and I would have looked like I had an undisciplined team,” Fisher said. “But you can’t worry about that.”

Whatever. He could have dished it to a couple different guys for easy layups. Instead he decided to show off. You're stoned. It was a great, high-percentage play. FSU had gotten back quickly on D. They had a guy on the point guarding JF and two guys on the wings picking up Taps and Stephens. If JF tosses the ball to either of his teammates, they get doubled and the scoring threat stops right there. But JF was one-on-one with FSU's big man, whose eyes bugged out the second JF tossed the ball. He had no clue what was happening. JF made him his b*tch. And just like FSU's big man, many people like you are confused by what you saw. But that's OK. Genius is quite often misunderstood. Otherwise, it wouldn't be genius. Here's JF breaking it all down for you. Read and learn. “I gradually figured out that it works because when you throw the ball, people think you’re throwing an alley oop to someone else. The natural reaction as a defender is to turn your head. But by the time you turn your head, the ball is already hitting off the backboard and I’m already in the air. “The hardest part is getting the ball to the backboard, because you’re throwing the ball going so fast that you could throw it too hard. The dunk is the easy part.” (For the record, he wasn’t credited with an assist because he passed to himself.) The sequence started with Franklin corralling a long rebound. He turned and charged up court, with Stephens to his left and Tapley to his right. Three Fresno State players retreated, including 7-0 freshman center Robert Upshaw. “The 7-footer, he looked for the ball,” Franklin said. “But by the time he noticed where the ball was at, I was already coming too fast. It was too late.” Whaaaaaaam.
