The BE isn't adding a full western division. I was a supporter of the move and thought it would happen but it's time to give up on that hope. ECU, Tulane, now Tulsa? If SDSU comes for football only and brings the San Diego market for a late time slot the BE is happy. Other than that they don't care.
The MWC tv deal is garbage as are a lot of their football programs, but that's where SDSU is going to be. We can all be mad together if it kills football and subsequently sends basketball to the Big West.

Do I remember correctly that back in the days when we had M. Faulk Tulsa beat us without too much difficulty in one of our very rare bowl appearances? And I believe they did fairly well this year. Any idea that Tulsa isn't a pretty good opponent for the Aztecs seems absurd to me. UMass would be a bad addition to the BE. Tulsa isn't Boise State at the moment, but neither are we despite the fact that we had a great win against them this year. And as to the fact that we need another "western" team, who says so? I don't consider Boise a western team anyway. Anything east of of the California border isn't west as far as I am concerned. Yep, we lost to them in the 1991 Freedom Bowl in Anaheim 28-17.

Lugie tried two surprise onsides kickoffs. Neither one worked. Lugie drove me to drink. I'll always thank him for that.

I have been saying all along they should get Tulsa strong football and basketball. Lets all freak out over 500 miles,(Tulsa 1250 Boise 755 from San Diego) one hour in the air. Tulsa is not pacific west but it is Southwest.

The problem with Tulsa isn't its location or academics. It's that it has the smallest student population of the 124 FBS universities and therefore a sparse number of alumni and, therefore, very few people outside the city care about the university and half of the city roots for OU. If this was 1952, that wouldn't matter. However, then somebody started manufacturing televisions.

Great news that they are fighting for us, adding to our leverage in all cases. The MWC is pushing too, much to the dismay of dozens of rebel trolls... Leverage is nice. Yes, it seems obvious to me at this point, that no program west of the Rockies, other than SDSU, is interested in joining the BE. Look, I give Aresco all kinds of kudos for trying to keep his conference together, such as it is. But I offer no sympathy as, like the previous snake oil salesman, his sales job is tantamount to telling my 5 year old granddaughter we're going to Disneyland, then taking her to Chuck-e-Cheese.

And Oklahoma is pretty much the Fresno State of the Midwest. That's pretty damn funny... So true. That is funny... But wrong, not even close... Oklahoma in general and Tulsa specifically has a ton of Oil and Gas money... Hence the endowment. They also have a newly renovated stadium and a decent fan base with a top 65 TV market. As was posted earlier they don't have a lot of fans, in line with UNLV at about a third of SDSU and less than a fourth of BSU's fan base. Tulsa is easily better than all of the MWC except BSU, SDSU and AFA... thequad.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/19/the-geography-of-college-football-fans-and-realignment-chaos/

They are f'ing rednecks. Hence the comparison. Edit: There are a few other similarities, but detailed analysis wasn't the purpose.

important for the BE to understand we want an ALL Sports South/West Division and to add a true "Western" School - UNLV, FRENO, Nevada, some school from Nevada, or CA, in addition to Tulsa. I don’t think BE is having a difficulty understanding our wants. I’m sure they’re aware of it. However, our needs (and oft-mentioned desire for a West Division) are really just wishful thinking. We’re a new member with no clout. If Boise St. can’t even throw their weight around to get a compromise on their demands, you can bet the BE won’t give into ours. Since our membership is temporary, let’s do the best we can with the resources we’ll get from the BE to improve our standing. Let’s use the BE for our advantages the way they’re using us to help the league get the best TV contract.
