Reminds me a bit of Malcolm Thomas, he is going to be very good soon, and is already really good on defensive end.

He's Malcolm on D, but more of a traditional back to basket center on Offense - when he gets his steps and swings down in the low block, he's going to be a monster. Of course, like many aztecs, he needs to overhaul his FT stroke in the offseason. Kid is going to be a good one.

I like how we keep getting great defenders. One to come in as well with one of the best perimeter defenders in Dakarai Allen! Defense wins championships.

As a high school senior, he was considered the best shot blocker in California. I am starting to see why, he is a beast on defense.

His timing on shot blocks is excellent. He rarely fouls and usually does not allow himself to shot block himself out of a rebound opportunity. I love his game. I think this guy is the biggest surprise of the recruiting class.

Who'd thunk he'd be our best freshmen at this point in the season?

Reminds me a bit of Malcolm Thomas, he is going to be very good soon, and is already really good on defensive end. Not me, more fluid and athletic than Thomas. That despite the fact that he is still growing and has some awkwardness to him. When this kid fills out and begins to get his man strength he will be a dominant force. The guy that reminded me of Thomas was James Johnson when I saw him play last night, very robotic but good hops and explosion, he has a crouch to his step like Thomas did

Who'd thunk he'd be our best freshmen at this point in the season? (me?) Same here. I figured his style of play would help him get a ton of playing time. We clearly needed great post defense after last year, and Skylar Spencer was considered the best shot-blocker in the state. Winston Shepard might be considered more talented, but Spencer was much more of a need for SDSU.

I am really excited to be able to see his progression here. Scary to think he's just barely touching the surface of his game..

With Deshaun, Skylar, and now James Johnson, we are very strong in the paint. Big Johnson getting a late start to the season truly was one of the best things to happen for Skylar's game.

Skylar has already progressed and gotten more comfortable in the first part of this season. Worked out perfectly.

There were a lot of questions nationally about SDSU's frontcourt. Everyone knew about the '4 guards' but I really feel great about what we have. The improvement of DeShawn is Jamaal Franklin-like and he is actually a legit scoring option to go with energy/defense. JJ is the ultimate glue-guy and will continue to improve as a scorer as the season progresses. Actually has some pretty nice low-post moves. Spencer is what he is for this season, someone who will come off the bench, provide some defense, rebounds and putbacks. Now, with Johnson in the mix, Fisher can actually play two true PF/C types at the same time and allow us to match up with bigger teams if needed. Bottom line is that SDSU will be fine in the front court this season.

The only negative is his free throw shooting (which needs a TON of work). Everything is else is fine.
Oldie Out

Oldie Out hell, what player recently has come in as a frosh and had a halfway decent free throw stroke? Maybe one of these AAU coaches should teach shooting mechanics, nah, that doesn't get shoe deals.
