When I think of women's basketball: Not sure who she be embarrassed, her for missing or Stanford for leaving her wide open.

Aztec fans can't even support a football team that's having one of their best seasons since Coryell was the head coach. What do you expect from a fair-weather fan base located in a fair-weather city? I like how people diss women's basketball but will sit up and watch snooze fest sports like baseball, golf, and nascar. They even show poker on ESPN. Very exciting. Do people admonish people for not watching golf? Do they make moral arguments for why people should support nascar?

Never do these "I'm better than you guys because I support ________" threads turn into anything other than bashing said sport responses. Post good stuff about a program and supporters reply. Bash non-supporters and the haters reply. How is that good for the program?

They should build an on-campus stadium

Dave, you should know after all these years that if one is smart enough to creates a proboards login, that makes them an expert on everything from A to Z and thus they're morally obligated to enlighten the world with their wisdom. So, back on topic ... We were four of the 462. WBB is a different game so those who compare it to the mens game undoubtedly will be dissatisfied with the product. Then again, using that logic, why ever eat a hamburger when the world has filet mignon?

You can make us fund it but you can't make us watch it. At least not yet. They should listen to Geno Auriemma; lower the basket and shorten the shot clock. "They" can make you buy health insurance now, so... forcing you to eat brussel sprouts and buy WBB tickets might be next. Get over your election lose man...whining is so unbecoming of an Aztec. Women's basketball isn't exciting...I don't care if it Baylor...still doesn't make me want to get up and go. If they were smart, they would schedule their games before the mens..this way the early fans would at least be there to support them.

I just don't think women's basketball is as bad as people make it out to be.

People also forget, the men needed a 20-0 start and a few tournament wins before they got the support they have now. When women's hoops become the flavor of the month, they'll get the same support.

I have said it here before. The fan base for women's basketball is a different fan base than men's basketball and football. Only a tiny subset of men's basketball fans have any interest in women's basketball. A large portion of the people here have season tickets to football and/or basketball because they really enjoy it, and are not interested in a much slower version of the sport (or have the bandwidth to take on another sport). We all wish the women's basketball team success, just like I wish success for all the other team sports on the Mesa that I never attend.

There was also a women's volleyball match at the same time last night in Peterson's Gym which could have drawn some people away.

IMO... I wouldn't go watch a game if it were free and our team was #1 in the nation. It has nothing to do with Aztec woman's bball but rather the sport as a whole. To me it is way to slow. I have turned on a WNBA game on tv before and I couldn't handle it after 5 minutes. Nothing against the team. I'm just not into it

Bash non-supporters and the haters reply. How is that good for the program? I agree. But those who feel obligated to come into every woman's basketball thread to tell us again that women's basketball is boring, need to consider their reasons for doing go. Hell, they need to stop. If someone doesn't like women's basketball don't read threads about them. They do get a pass for this thread since it is about support being disappointing. So WBB being boring (or not) is pertinent. I am talking about other WBB threads.

Positive threads about WBB = Potential Current/Future Interest. Negative threads about WBB non-fans = Posts Bashing WBB. It's simple. My last two cents.

Our household will be attending one women's game (Harvard) this season -- and maybe one at the MWC Tourney.
Throw in a softball game or two, maybe a baseball game, the Strasburg 5K, football season tickets, basketball season tickets, one football roadie a year, two basketball regular season roadies this year, Midway Classic, Tim Shelton's charity contributions, Marshall Faulk's charity contributions, rounding up friends to come to games, and buying Aztec gear...
You get the idea. Only so much time and money.

I'd suggest having all women's basketball games and catholic masses combined in Viejas arena, but I'm not catholic.
I love the Aztec women's basketball team. Coach Burns is a far better coach than Stevie Fisher will ever be. When the Aztecs played at UCI a few years ago, I went. It took eight minutes from the salt mine to my seat in the Bren Center and the time included a purchase of a premium beer at the Bren Center.
Viejas needs to sell beer and wine. Hello? You can stamp a hand for each purchase to control the excessive drinking. But c'mon how many beers can you buy and consume during a basketball game anyway?

My final "soap box" comment on this is to look at the bigger picture. Like others have said, if it's not your thing, that's fine, but no need to stop and bash it just because.
I assume most of you are like me and find athletics to be a huge positive in life. Not only the enjoyment of watching and attending, but the life lessons, living a healthy lifestyle, friendships and character building that playing sports provide (and provided many of us, not matter what level). While I don't have any kids myself yet, I'm a big believer in passing those positive attributes on to my nieces/nephews, little cousins and friends kids -- as I'm sure many of you do as well with your own kids. That said, while the girls enjoy going to men's games, they really love the women's games, not only because of the whole "girl power" thing, but because it's a different experience and one of those differences is that the female athletes (a generalization, I know) seem to go farther out of their way to be approachable. Yes, kids (and some adults too) go high-five the men's bball team as they leave the court to the locker room which is awesome, but it's not practical to have 12,414 meet the players after each game. With the women's bball team, my niece is on a first name basis with most of them and a few of the soccer, lacrosse and softball players too. I think it's cool, but to her you'd think she won the lottery each time a player came over to say "hi" to her or ask how school or her soccer team is doing.
So, you get the idea. While it may not be your cup of tea, there's no need to crap on it because they too are athletes who worked hard to get where they are and they're the role models for the next generation. As I've said before, I suspect it's easy to talk crap when you're 22 and single, but when you're 32 and your daughter(s) are into it, you should probably be a little more objective.
