www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/nov/12/paris-poinsettia-bowl-could-have-red-and-black-blo/Starting to sound like a done deal - but still not confident enough to book my flights and HOTEL ROOM(S). Bummer is that Boise's last game is Dec 1.... just make it offical already! “It’s all in the hands of the Las Vegas Bowl,” said Bruce Binkowski, the Poinsettia Bowl’s executive director. “But we are keeping our fingers crossed
“Certainly, that is why we exist, to fill hotel rooms. But we have the opportunity to get the local team and how can you pass on that if it wins nine games? We can’t and we wouldn’t.”

I have booked my room for the Poinsettia Bowl already. In fact I am sleeping in it tonight and all the way through the Bowl. I like it so much I might just keep on staying.

This can't be. Everyone knows Binkowski hates SDSU.

He does. Riiiiight. That will be evident if he takes us 2 out of 3 years of eligibility. We weren't exactly desirable last season, if you ask me. Anyways. The couple of convos I have had with him regarding SDSU were extremely positive, and entertaining. Maybe he was just blowing smoke up my ass, but I doubt it. Agree to disagree. The proof is in the....

I have no idea who this guy is and frankly I get chills down my spine whenever I see the word "binky".
It gives me the same feeling as "moist".
That being said. Years of SDSU sucking at everything in sports have lead fans to assume a personality of victimhood.
This guy may not show SDSU any preferential treatment, it doesn't mean that he hates SDSU.
Why would he hate SDSU? Unless he is an alumni of a rival school.

We still have to beat Wyoming, I'm not overlooking them one bit, but if/when we beat them, when would we know we'd be invited to the PBowl? Would we have to wait until after Boise's last game? I ask because I hope there is lots of time for the marketing department to at least make an effort to publicize this to the casuals/locals to come out.

That being said, I don't think he hates SDSU, like others on this board do, however, I don't think he likes SDSU, either. IMHO, he wouldn't have had a second thought about SDSU not being able to play in a bowl game last year had we not been able to get into the New Orleans Bowl. Also, while the Poinsettia Bowl says this year might be the last year they are able to get SDSU for a few years, I don't agree with that. Next year they are scheduled to be getting Army (who I doubt will go 6-5 to gain eligibility). There is certainly a possibility that we could be a "fill in" in future years...

There would be 50K plus for an SDSU BYU matchup, and about 20K for something else. Too many more fan showings like last year, and there won't be a Poin. Bowl around for him to direct for much longer. This is a pretty easy call.

A native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Binkowski moved with his family to San Diego in 1960. He attended San Diego City College majoring in radio broadcasting and graduated in 1971 from the University of San Diego with a degree in United States History.

Him being a grad of USD hardly proves he "dislikes" or "hates" SDSU. His words and actions speak otherwise. The guy is a professional.

I was simply trying to educate others who also know next to nothing about the guy. I will say this. Since the average Aztec doesn't want to see USD become too good at hoops or baseball, it can be assumed the average Torrero feels the same about SDSU sports. So my further guess would be that Binkowski would rather see his bowl game be successful without having to rely on SDSU for help. Does that mean he hates SDSU? No, but I highly doubt he's objective about us either.

Nor is it relevant. The fact remains, if we go to the PB this year that will be 2 out of 3 years we've been selected after 12 years of not being eligible. Seems like Bruce wants that to happen, per his comments. Frankly, I wouldn't have wanted our team last year either. We were fringe eligible and hardly exciting.
