Look at the difference in decisions between Franklin and Shrigley...one had the confidence and the other unsure. Franklin did not get much value from his Freshman year. I am not sure how solid this argument is.

I was so looking forward to seeing Shrigley rip the cords this season.

Now Fisher only has nine guys that think they will start. This. Like this will leave some big hole in this year's rotation? C'mon.

If Shrigs is cool with it, who am I to doubt Coach Fisher?

dumb. i'm going to get flamed for this, but that gives him options besides us for next year. Love the kid already, hope he really is an Aztec for life, and I hope i'm being a shortsighted sky-is-falling idiot dumbas$ and that I stop thinking these things. odd... you seem to have things together except when it comes to Aztec hoops. this is a good decision for Shrigley and one I excepted... when it comes to getting playing time on Fisher's teams it's about defense. Shrigley will be a better defensive player after a redshirt year (not saying he is bad but it's currently not his strength)... and, as a poster mentioned above, using his redshirt year would not be something that makes sense if he were planning on leaving... besides, i am pretty sure he likes playing at SDSU.

This is good for Shrigley and good for the team this season. I've attended the scrimmage and 2 games, and he looks promising but we really struggled in part due to having too many personnel changes...hard to get a rhythm (just look at JF's stat lines.) Don't forget we have Johnson coming to take minutes too.
JJ looks great after spending a season on the practice squad...not a bad thing just a little patience required.

LOVE this move.
Tapley (G), Rahon (G) and Stephens (F) graduate this year. Jamaal (G) likely leaving for NBA as well.
Let Matt (F) add some seasoning to his game and add 10-15 lbs of bulk to his frame and let's see some fireworks.

I retract the comment if I am under a bad assumption, but a player can transfer after a redshirt without sitting out the next season?

A bit of a shocker from what I've read - I'm sure he and the coaching staff have talked this through and did what was best for him and the team.

If needed would Shrig's be able to take the redshirt off at any point during the year? I was under the impression that a redshirt can be removed if need be.

Not sure I understand this comment. It was a stupid small comment.

Not sure I understand this comment. The term is built out of Reverse Racist Stereo types, toward the now minority whites in America. It implies that white people cannot perform on the Basketball court at the same level as Blacks. The Stereotype is further perpetuated by Hollywood films, such as "White Men Can't jump", which by it's title implies as much. It would be the equivalent of seeing a Black become a Scientist or Astronaut, and saying, wow! I thought blacks were born to play ball, or pick up Mitt Rromney's Trash. However, as long as whites tolerate such sterotypes of themselves and just chuckle, we will continue to be marginalized from relevance.

I thought Matt was one of the more impressive new players in the exhibition games and I was looking forward to seeing him progress this year.
I appreciate that he's doing what Fish says is best for team and, more importantly, his future.
Go Aztecs!

This is really interesting.
All I'm going to say is that it takes a player of real character to make this call.
Matt would have gotten pt this year, that's for sure.
