It's as much a gamble for Matt as it is for the team. I hope it plays out for the best. Matt might have made for a bit of much-needed competition for James Rahon coming off the bench. Time will tell.

If and when Jamaal leaves next year, we're going to need Shrigley's redshirt year down the road, especially if Isaac Hamilton goes else where, which is looking more and more probable.

I'm surprised, but I understand. Matt's a smart kid, and I think this move will be a positive for him and the program.

Now Fisher only has nine guys that think they will start.

This is a bit disappointing. I think Matt was gonna see about 10 minutes/game this season.
Game experience this year would make it that much easier for him to step into the starting SG role next year as a sophomore.
IMO, you can't replace game experience vs. Syracuse, UCLA, Arizona, UNLV... ...

We have to keep in mind, we saw the rotations without James Johnson. Once he is eligible, its going to get all sorts of cramped for playing time. To be honest, we'll prob go big whenever JF isn't in at the 3. Rahon will probably only sub moreorless for C-Taps or when X isn't in at the 1.
Still would love to have another 3 guy as an option in Shrigs. :-( But, there really isn't much time for another SG type.

We will need him more next year. Just think 5 years from now he will be starting his last season as an Aztec. We will be very happy he red shirted this year. It would be like having Tapley as a junior this year.

dumb.
i'm going to get flamed for this, but that gives him options besides us for next year. Love the kid already, hope he really is an Aztec for life, and I hope i'm being a shortsighted sky-is-falling idiot dumbas$ and that I stop thinking these things.

If he redshirts, he will lose a year of playing time if he transferred to another D1 school. When you sit out a year for transferring, it is like using your redshirt year. He also lost a one year insurance policy in case he gets injured. In short, he has 5 years to play 4.

This is great for both the player and the team. Matt will have a year to work on his game, just like polee did, obrien did.

Look at the difference in decisions between Franklin and Shrigley...one had the confidence and the other unsure.
