I'm sensing an agenda behind this poll.

I'm sensing an agenda behind this poll. No doubt. There is an agenda behind everything.

I'll let you know at the end of the season...I hope they both have great seasons in whichever roll they fill. That's the problem with BBA, he's all stats driven and doesn't take the intangibles into account.

Better as in more productive for the Aztecs More productive how? Shepard could average 5/5/3 and be a lock down defender and that would be just as productive as Stephens averaging 10/8...

Answer is: I don't know. You picked probably the two biggest unknowns for us this coming season. Deshawn showed some real progress over the season, and probably has the most most room to improve of anyone.
Winston has all the talent, it's just a matter of how he adjusts to the college game.
Should be exciting to see.

He'll have one of the better seasons, if not the best season of any player in the country. But lets not make this a JF thread please. Thank you

I say DESHAWN. He is going to play like a BIG. Remains to be seen how WS will play AND where he will play. I think we need DS more than WS this season.

He was like the 4th option on Findlay, so he's kind of used to it. He'll be one of our best defenders right away and an incredible role player.

DeShawn should have a great opportunity to log minutes as the true big, with a great shot to start at the 5 early in the season.
Winston's advantage is that he has similar length to DeShawn and can offer a defensive presence that may be pretty close, but has more overall bball skills to offer such as passing, ball handling, some outside shot potential. He is more versatile and can be kept on the floor in more lineups switching around to cover 5, 4 and 3 positions.
By the end of the season, I expect Winston to get more minutes than DeShawn. The question is how early will this happen?
As for comparing Jamaal's first year to Winston's, Jamaal's outside shot and ball-handling ability, when he started, did not call for him to compete for a starting guard spot. His athleticism made him more of a forward and he had Kawhi, Billy and Malcolm to beat out in the frontcourt, plus really was only a potential option at the 3 or 2.
Winston, however, is one of three players with the length to play at the 4-5 positions before Johnson becomes eligible and he definitely has the bball skills to play the wing, so he can fill in from 3-5, not to mention those who envision him as a potential 1. His length, defensive ability and skill set will almost definitely get him more playing time than Jamaal was able to muster in Jamaal's frosh season.

Jamaal was expected to come in a play immediately as a freshman but we were packed at the Forward spots and we already had great role playing guards. This season we are packed at the forward spots and we have great role playing guards. Winston will have to be beyond special to play in front of Polee, O'brien, Stephens and Rahon.
