The Big East should approach 3M to see how much they would offer to cover the football contract. I heard Muzac corp is interested. We could be in every elevator and lobby in the country! Or maybe if we're REALLY lucky, they'll broadcast BE games on those gas pump monitors!!!

I really like the new direction this thread is headed in.
And btw, could the "insider" from the OP's article actually be Aztec Mesa' very own Insider? Did you ever even think about that?

Aztec70, Let's see what Facebook, Apple or Google offer. Maybe it's zero. I have no idea.....I doubt it's zero though. Wouldn't it be cool to pull up Aztec football in Shanghai or Bangkok or Casablanca LIVE? What makes you think that March Madness was not live around the world on the Internet?

Charlie, You would be so damn proud of BEast football if SDSU got $25M or $30M a year from Google you couldn't see straight.....and don't tell me otherwise. But you never know unless you try and the timing of all this is really fantastic. All of the other D-1 conferences are contractually-obligated forever. The BEast is not. Huge advantage.......exploit it.!!!!@ Unfortunately I heard that FB offered 38M but immediately lowered its bid to 31 pesos

If the TV contract isn't expected to be in place until after the season is underway and possibly done, the biggest question is what happens if Boise State falls back to earth on the football field. What is their value then, as you consider the weak recruiting classes they have recently brought in and the lack of a recruiting base to build off of?
In rebuilding mode, say Boise falls to Michigan State, Southern Miss, SDSU, Nevada, BYU and Wyoming when not including the rest of the programs on the schedule. A 6-6 team out of Idaho has no value to the Big East and likely won't get back to a point they they can compete.
In a scenario where the travel expense and is elevated and interest falls due to a lack of regional rivals, Boise drags SDSU down with them like a drowning swimmer in panic.
I'm excited for SDSU as the entire program has come an extremely long way from 1999 basketball and football. The Big East is a huge step back and I can't see the money being worth it with a very unstable Big East that is using SDSU and Boise as bait.

Remember, Idaho was the top dog in the state when the programs went FBS. Two former head coaches that carried BSU have failed when they moved to more competitive conferences. As a program, they were loaded with 4 year starters last year but they have lost nearly everyone. They are now in complete rebuilding mode with nothing truely established on either side of the ball and a new OC. This is also a team that has failed to win its conference title twice in the last two years and shouldn't be favored to win this year either. Right now, Boise is like a sleak sports car with problem under the hood. They are the third best football program in the MWC this year that can easily fall to below the middle of the pack in a short time. The lack of a home recruiting base and regional rivals throws them to the bottom of the Big East within three years. SDSU basketball and football deserves a more regionally smart MWC. It better for the long term.

At the risk of scaring away a newbie, who I will hereby welcome to the board assuming he's not some troll from one of the MWC's official Butthurt schools (which I think he is), I'll point out that Rivals, Scout and 247Sports all rated Boise's 2012 class as the best of the non-AQ schools other than TCU, which is about to join the B12, and BYU, which the Big East has been courting for months. Here are Boise's national ratings: 54 (Rivals), 49 (Scout) and 55 (247Sports). The contention they had a relatively bad class is therefore simply erroneous. I also disagree with the argument that Hawkins' and Koetter's "failure" in AQ conferences means Boise is headed downward. In fact, it means the opposite to me in that it shows it isn't necessarily just the coach which matters at Boise. Boise doesn't just have a football team, it has a football PROGRAM. From top to bottom administratively that school is built for football. Boise to the bottom of the BE in three years? Yeah, sure.

Actually, I've been around since the late 90s, usually go by aztecwarrior. So many board changes over the years, figure I will go by my name. I just see Boise in the same way many other teams that used to be contenders. The big thing that has made Boise a draw is finishing undefeated or nearly undefeated. The moment they lose 2 or more games in season in consecutive years, there isn't a draw television wise or recruiting. Add more loses to the equation, they are no better than bringing along the Vandals or New Mexico State. The Aztec program is now in a sustainable phase, the MWC has begun to put a lot of dings in the armor of the Pac 10 in basketball as well as football. In the current make up of the conference, there are a lot of regional rivalries and story lines. A split featuring a championship game should make the conference even better. This equals sustained growth in Aztec athletics and the potential of finally being one of California's elite programs. It also takes away the potential black eye of being a second tier program that is a football only member of the Big East. With the money it will cost to leave the Big East in the future and the mandatory two year exit clause once the team joins, it is too costly to make that move. SDSU is a top tier program, not a Big East gimmick.

Will, I have to disagree strongly about Boise ever being at the caliber of Idaho and NMSU. Differences:
1. Boise isn't a large city but it's ten times larger than Moscow and about three times as big as Las Cruces, plus Boise now has a regional following unlike the others. 2. Boise also has a decent stadium which is being upgraded whereas NMSU plays in an old relic and Idaho calls a quonset hut home. 3. It's an understatement to say Boise's success dwarfs anything Idaho and NMSU have ever accomplished. Today, Boise is to Idaho as an SDSU was as to Long Beach State in the seventies, times about three.
Bottom line is the greatest drop-off I can possibly foresee for Boise in moving up to the BE is that they will become what ASU has become in the Pac since leaving the WAC. In other words, Boise will become a middle of the road team, but that's as low as they will go.

Victims of "The Peter Principle": UA, ASU, SDSU, possibly Utah, BYU (because they are currently BYUthe irrelevent), and now you say BSU. Yes, I agree, (as usual), it's quite possible. Big fish in a little pond verses little fish in a big pond. Why it becomes so much easier for me....it's all about the money.

Money today is important. It is exceptionally true in today's environment. I truly wish it wasn't. I'm saddened by this but have bought in because the landscape has changed. It will change again so in the short run we must accept this arrangement and remain relevant.
There is going to be a divide soon so we need to be in position to be on the right side of the divide. No guarantees but we will be in a better position than those in the remnant MWC.

Everything is guessing until the situation stabilizes. If Rutgers and Louisville bail on the BE before the end of June, the TV negotiations will take a hit. Those would be 2 TV markets that will be hard to replace. If they stand pat it will be a good sign for the BE, enhancing negotiations. Lets wait and see.

Rutgers won't be going anywhere unless the B12 takes FSU and Clemson and the ACC replaces them with Rutgers and UConn. However, after getting hot and heavy a month ago, talk of that has died down. So instead there's now again a chance the B12 might take Louisville and BYU. Speaking of BYU, I think the best case scenario for SDSU would be this. 1. Boise gets accepted to the No So Big West. 2. NMSU and Idaho then completely give up on the WAC and rejoin the Big Sky. 3. The B12 announces it won't consider expansion again at least until next summer. 4. Based on 2 and 3, BYU begins getting very pessimistic about filling its football schedule in 2013 and beyond and equally pessimistic about joining the B12 and therefore agrees to become the Big East's 14th football member. We may all hate BYU but having them join the BE would be a key piece toward getting the best TV deal. That is particularly so with regard to ESPN. BYU has already contracted with the 4-letter network and however cutthroat ESPN might be, isn't it really a better choice to cover BE football than the doofuses at NBC or FoxSports?

This truly ideal scenario would then add... 5. BYU & SDSU both competing together in the BE then makes it easier for the Big"12" to invite both schools as a pair if/when that conference expands to 14 or 16.

Since the B12 cares a lot about hoops and baseball and Boise is lousy at the former and doesn't even field a baseball team, that's a great point.
