Yay more prospects! Maybe they will be good by 2015! Or maybe we are the new pirates.

OK, when I saw the headline I honestly thought this was a joke thread - a parody.
Are the Padres really TRYING to suck??
What have I been saying for months - that anytime any Padre gets good they trade him rather than building around him. This team will NEVER be good at this rate. Until the Padres actually decide to KEEP talent and build a team around said talent they will be the doormat of the NL.
What a freaking joke. Let's trade Moorad and Moores for a janitor to be named later.

The Pads will never, ever win a Championship. Just like the Chargers. Very sad to have spent my entire adult life watching these 2 train wreck Franchises, and their misfit band of GM's and owners. Maybe we can bring Roseanne back to sing the Anthem one more time.

You know the Pads, they never would have held on to Latos when he became arbitration eligible. Looks to me that Alonso might be bringing a real BAT with him which the Pads don't have many of now. You know, one without all the holes in it.

I've done some research, and I am pleased with the deal. Latos is very talented, and is under club control for five more seasons.
However, the Padres are a club that is sorely lacking impact position players. The hope is that Rizzo, Decker, and now these two kids from the Reds (whom are major league ready) can help provide what we know we need. Volquez sucked in 2011, but has shown that he has good stuff, and should benefit from the always helpful Petco factor. Boxberger can slide into the bullpen, which was an obvious place of need after seeing Heath Bell and Mike Adams leave in the last six months.
Now, let's hope these cats can play. Alonso looks to have alot of talent.

Alonso has extensive experience in the outfield, he played some LF in both the minors and with the Reds. I see him playing at least some LF for the Padres, but I could be wrong. I think they both stay for awhile, until the Padres can figure out what they really have in Rizzo, Alonso, Blanks, and Guzman (LF/1B logjam).

It doesn't matter. As soon as any of these guys get any good they'll just be traded for more prospects...

Alonso is the key to this deal Legit .300 hitter.

Latos was a head case and will probably do about the same as Jake Peevy....At first glance this sucks, but probably will work out in our favor.

Some dude on ESPN said they think they will trade Rizzo to the Cubs for Matt Garza and more. Garza would be a nice pickup - IF the Padres keep him for more than just a year or two. Otherwise it doesn't matter. The key is keeping talent and building around that talent. The Padres as an organization have refused to do that since 1998, and that's why this team has failed to get to another World Series since then (and why most years this team has been an abject failure).
