He'll start as soon as his short suspension is over....that is if charges ever get filed. But an entire season worth of Jamaal and it will be impossible to keep him out of the starting line up. I see Tapley as a 1st team performer, Jamaal can do more than Tapley at both ends of the floor. Tapley is guaranteed point. Jamaal is guaranteed point, rebounds, defense, special teams..etc! lol ..plus you're assuming he's not drunk or hung-over while practicing or playing? ...even after he's old enough to drink?

So BBallAnalyst, are you saying that this is your pre-season all MWC team or who you think will end up All-MWC at the end of the season?
If it is the former, then it is ludicrous to list your man Jamal Franklin as a first-team player. He has done nothing to earn that distinction (and I guarantee he won't be on any pre-season All-MWC teams)
If it's the later then I hope you are correct since that would mean SDSU has a great year.

Fair enough, then this thread is not as crazy as I first thought. I am excited to see if Franklin can become the force that you think he will be - starting in about 2 months (or a bit longer for Franklin)!

Their will be a power struggle to see who the "go to guy" is at the beginning. It's not clear right now as everyone's role will be a new one. When the dust settles, the ball will be in Franklin's hands to make the plays down the stretch for SDSU.

Those guys are good too. Not taking anything away from them. Thames could make it to the NBA if he develops a consistent jump shot. Tapley can shoot the lights out, but he needs to improve his defense before i'm a believer...he'll be great in College though.

If we play at a quicker tempo, then we will need the best ball handlers and shooters on the floor. And Thames, Tapley, Rahon and LaBradford are all probably better than Jamaal at this point, and all of them will play close to 25-30 mins over the first few games while Jamaal is suspended. LaBradford will get an early opportunity to play big minutes and gain confidence.
If these guards play well together, penetrate, shoot lights out and we win all of those games ... Jamaal won't just jump right into the rotation and dominate minutes. Don't forget, it was LBF last year that got the bulk of the early minutes between the Franklin's (not Jamaal) ... but he got pulled for turnovers and poor defense, which might be the only things he worked on this summer.
We don't know yet ... LBF could actually be the better 'Franklin' by doing nothing spectacular but simply by playing solid D, penetrating and dishing out assists, and Jamaal could still choose to hide in the corner on offense only looking for follow dunks, he could lead the team in charges because he tries to dunk everything when he shouldn't, and he could be a poor team defender because he still tries to leak out early before we actually have control of the ball ... to get an easy dunk.

LBF is a 6'0 pg, Jamaal is a 6'5 2...towards the end of the year LBF couldn't get in the game and JF was called on during tournament play. Jamaal has one of the better jump shots on the team. He didn't get to shoot it much last year, but you'll see. He's WAY better than LBF and Rahon at both ends of the floor. It's not just about offense. Jamaal is our best defender and rebounder on the wing.

"Chase needs to improve his defense?" Uh, who stole the freaking ball in the MWC Tourney Semi-final game? If Chase does not steal the ball, do Aztecs beat UNLV and get rematch with BYU? Hmmm.
ALL-MWC. Gentlemen, awards and accolades are based on who the Coaches, Media and etc.. like. Its polictics. However, the player that scores the most points always gets the awards. So, if Rahon scores the most points, he will be All MWC; if Thames scores the most points, he will be All MWC and etc..
Coaches, Media and anyone else could care less about who plays defense, who gets rebounds, who gets the steals. It has been and always will be, whoever scores the most points for the team gets the award.
Here's an example. Wyoming's Afam Muojeke (sp?) was predicted as an All MWC performer last season and he did not even play! His selection was based on past performance. So, whichever player scores the most points for the Aztecs this season, said player "may" get selected as All MWC.
Personally, I like to see Aztecs go to the NCAA Tournament, hang banners and get Championships rings!

I saw the man get embarrassed by Jimmer and Kemba when it counted. Those were the only NBA caliber player's Chase had to guard all year so I'm basing it off of that. Jamaal is the most naturally gifted scorer on SDSU. He can score in a variety of ways. He'll explode for 30+ more than once this year. Mark my words. Chase may do the same also but I don't see James reaching that mark.

This is my preseason All Conference teams 1st Team All MWC Kendall Williams UNM Chase Tapley SDSU Jamaal Franklin SDSU Chase Stanback UNLV Drew Gordon UNM 2nd Team Oscar Bellfield UNLV Tony Snell UNM Michael Lyons AF Xavier Thames SDSU Garrett Green SDSU Defensive POY: Drew Gordon MVP:Drew Gordon/Chase Stanback Because your orbit seems to revolve solely around Jamaal Franklin ... you seem to not even be aware of what is going on in the rest of the conference (or our own team). And you missed some names that might completely dominate the all conference teams ... partly because of talent and partly because they play for bad teams and they will be expected to carry them. There are numerous newcomers that could have huge years and underclassmen that will step up into huge roles, including ... The 3 aussie's coming into the conference will all be solid, especially Greenwood (NM) and Anthony Drmic (Boise St). These two combined for 36 pts 9 assists and 7 rebounds when they played the USA U-19 team this summer (USA beat Australia 78-77). And both players will probably start and play big roles for their teams. Mike Moser (unlv) has been reported to be their best player during practices. It's very possible he comes in and has a similar impact on the MWC as Gordon had for NM last year. Leonard Washington (WYO) should be the starting PF and average close to a double double. Hopefully our team is more balanced and the numbers and minutes are spread around.
