There was no weakness revealed. What you saw was how a team plays when they are in foul trouble down the stretch. Billy was stupid in picking up his last foul and fouling out. But we fully shut down the dribble penetration in the first half when we weren't in foul trouble (except for a few time in transition).
We won this game because: 1. We went 20 of 22 in free throws. 2. We responded with guts when shots weren't falling, we are getting ticky tack fouls and 18,000 fans were shouting against us. 3. DJ Gay is clutch. 4. KL is solid. 5. Lon Kruger didn't coach this game very well. His guys jacking up 3s over and over and over when our bigs were in foul trouble was frankly stupid of him.
We got the W and SDSU now has more wins than any other team in all of NCAA men's basketball!
Go Aztecs!

Oracle must not have watched the Gonzaga game when Steven Gray absolutely destroyed us with dribble penetration.
We've been exposed before this point.

1st half our defense was awesome! 2nd half the refs tried but failed, lost several rebounds and their bigs took it to the basket.. but nevertheless our boyz grind it out for the "W'. It got loud in that arena towards the end but i was there cheering my head off with the rest of the Aztec student section! lol .felt like a kid again. **side note*** they retired Ryan Ludwick's number (Padres outfielder) before the game. Didn't know he went to that school "over there".

Call me a lousy fan; I was sure we were going down tonight when things got tight late in the game. It looked like we couldn't hit from the field nor work plays well at all. Then, somehow, some way, the team pulled it out.
How many times over the last decade (before this year) have we complained that the FB team did not have what it takes to pull out those close games? More than a few. Yet in BB, here we are with a team that can win against a good (though not great) team, away from home, with one starter and one key sub out, with players in foul trouble, and despite falling behind very late. That takes guts and focus. A result of dedicated players and good coaching.
I'm impressed!

Hey they exposed our weakness so bad that we gave up 57 points...Which is our average ppg/defense for the year.
Give UNLV credit they have one of the better back courts around.

Gutsy win by our Aztecs. As usual, this game was a slug fest, a street fight between two good teams. SDSU won the fight, but SDSU was exposed in this game for the first time this season. Dribble Penetration killed us today and got our guys in foul trouble, which in turn had our bigs playing without confidence. SDSU is going to be playing against elite level quickness and speed in the big dance. SDSU needs to do something to address this issue because Lon Kruger found our achillies heel and kept poking at it. Despite our downfall, still was a big win at UNLV and still am pround of our boys. why do you suppose the Rebs took so many outside shots? here's a hint, they couldn't get inside as much as they'd like, so they jacked them up outside. Kruger's teams always find a way to get inside. He recruits guards that play a physical, take-um-inside game.

I believe our on ball defense is better with Tapley and helps protect our bigs. Agreed, I've been saying all year that as good of a defender DJ is, Tapley is the best man to man perimeter defender on our team.

Not complaining about the win. The Oracle will take a tough road win at a hostile arena anyday. As an Aztec fan, the Oracle cannot complain about the win. But as a basketball analyst, the Oracle must compliment Kruger for seeing our weakness and exploiting it as much as he could. At the end of the day, our boys love leave their feets for the swat or reach at the ball. This has always been an issue for Fisher's teams. Throwing your body at an SDSU defender is how you get SDSU on its heals. The only post player that is good at not leaving his feet and reaching is Shelton. Everyone else is at risk of having this happen again. Complement Kruger? How about for letting his team jack three's when they aren't hitting them, how about not challenging our inside game when we are all running with three fouls or more? I think he did some good things, sure, like putting #31 on DJ and staying in his face for most of the 2H, it really upset our flow. BUT, he pulled 31 off DJ in the last few minutes and it helped us climb back from the 1 point deficit. If anyone wants to praise Kruger, they have to mention that too... Fish, on the other hand...awesome job tonight! Really really surprised this morning to read that Kruger was sitting on three time-outs during that 3-point barrage at the end.

This was one of those games that I think past Aztec teams would have lost. Like Fisher said in the post game interviews, this team is special. They have the combination of talent, experience, and poise to fight through adversity and find a way to win.
With that smothering defense and D.J.'s coolheaded leadership on the floor, for the first time we have a real chance to do some damage in the tournament.

This is that peculiar Aztec disposition to find the thunder cloud in the silver lining

I don't think so. We played defense to the point of making them take shots they did not want deep into the shot clock. For some reason the refs decided to tighten it up late in the game. A couple questionable calls went the other way and Billy White just played a little out of control a couple times. We did not execute all that well on offense for a long stretch towards the end of the game, but fine FT shooting down that stretch won us that game. Had Tapley been available it would have provided a little more depth, but we were just fine on defense.

Just hope that these injuries we are accumulating don't derail us.

What really got exposed is our excellent free throw shooting to ice the game Teams we play will now not go into the "foul game" and be forced to play defense. Word!

If UNLV exposed the Aztecs Achilles Heel, count on Jimmer fully capitalizing on it and Jimmer the Aztecs again on our home court! It WILL get very ugly.

I've been traveling and didn't have an opportunity to address any threads the last couple of days. I just wanted to address the "exposed" comment. We played the game with our starting 2G out and our first front court sub out. I think that had a lot to do with the outcome of this game. Tapley is a very good defensive player as is Shelton. I don't think we where exposed, maybe exploited, but not exposed. UNLV saw an opportunity to take advantage of Tapley and Shelton both out and some early front line foul trouble. I think were okay on the defensive side of the ball.

I think were okay on the defensive side of the ball. This is in no way a slap at Tapley, so please, no one should take it that way: I think the reality is that Tapley is the starter by default, but Tapley and Rahon are 1 and 1a. They've split time all year long fairly evenly, and both are very capable players. So it's not surprising that there would be little to no drop off in performance from the 2 guard position. Nothing was "exposed" with regard to not having Tapley available. The only thing the team was missing was the depth provided by having Rahon off the bench. Nothing more.
