Gutsy win by our Aztecs. As usual, this game was a slug fest, a street fight between two good teams.
SDSU won the fight, but SDSU was exposed in this game for the first time this season. Dribble Penetration killed us today and got our guys in foul trouble, which in turn had our bigs playing without confidence.
SDSU is going to be playing against elite level quickness and speed in the big dance. SDSU needs to do something to address this issue because Lon Kruger found our achillies heel and kept poking at it.
Despite our downfall, still was a big win at UNLV and still am pround of our boys.

I think they haven't been challenged quite like this in a while, and it will be a great learning experience for them. I guarantee you that they're not exactly pleased with their performance, and they'll use it going forward.
Better to learn the lessons in a win instead of a loss.

I believe our on ball defense is better with Tapley and helps protect our bigs.

I disagree, we played the dribble well, especially in the first half. It was why we grew that bubble as our defense, conversely never let them have a good look inside. Later, the refs really got tight and that prevented inside play in the 2H. The Rebs became more bold and had better looks in the 2H when our guys were in foul trouble and Carlwell got hurt. Mehdi really didn't give us a good inside game and that helped them cut our lead on top of that. I think this is definitely a good game just to win and go home, I don't think we were exposed at all.

Road win vs. tough conference opponent. Take the W, no questions asked.

With Tapley and Shelton playing, we win going away by 15+.
Not concerned at all, played with our bigs in foul trouble, shooting terrible, too many silly turnovers, didn't crass the boards as well as we should... and we still win, nothing to complain about

So much went wrong in the second half, and we still won. Being able to just grind out a win like this is crucial to going deep in the tourney. If we had lost, there would have been plenty of decent (though meaningless, of course) excuses. Foul trouble, injuries, etc...But we STILL won. In some ways, it's our best win of the season.

Not complaining about the win. The Oracle will take a tough road win at a hostile arena anyday.
As an Aztec fan, the Oracle cannot complain about the win. But as a basketball analyst, the Oracle must compliment Kruger for seeing our weakness and exploiting it as much as he could.
At the end of the day, our boys love leave their feets for the swat or reach at the ball. This has always been an issue for Fisher's teams. Throwing your body at an SDSU defender is how you get SDSU on its heals. The only post player that is good at not leaving his feet and reaching is Shelton. Everyone else is at risk of having this happen again.

The only thing we exposed was our resiliency in the face of adversity, which isn't really anything new! Great hard won fight tonight. AFA on the road could be a trap game if we can't get healthy. We need our folks to get healthy!

How about for letting his team jack three's when they aren't hitting them, how about not challenging our inside game when we are all running with three fouls or more? I think he did some good things, sure, like putting #31 on DJ and staying in his face for most of the 2H, it really upset our flow. BUT, he pulled 31 off DJ in the last few minutes and it helped us climb back from the 1 point deficit. If anyone wants to praise Kruger, they have to mention that too... Fish, on the other hand...awesome job tonight!

Refs inconsistency 1/2 to 1/2 is what drives you crazy! Let's face it: The refs were pretty miserable in this one. They let the two teams nearly club each other to death in the paint, but call some seriously questionable and ticky-tack fouls on the perimeter and away from the ball. It affects the players because they can't get a read on what's going to be called and what won't. But it was the Rebs complete inability to shoot free throws and 3's that pretty much won this one. The Aztecs NEVER gave up, kept their composure despite the foul problems, and hung on for dear life..........the result: 25-1! This was, indeed, a gusty win despite not quite having their 'A' game, and despite being a bit depleted on the bench. This was a physical, grinding affair, and will do the Aztecs some good in the weeks to come.

P.S.: I too thought Jamaal Franklin needed to see the floor a bit more. I thought it was a mistake no to let him play. He could have helped, I think.

You have to let a team shot their shots. UNLV was not nearly as bad at shot selection today as when they lost to BYU at home. The fact of the matter is that although UNLV plays fantastic defense, they have no fire power this year. The Oracle has been watching UNLV games and they struggle to score in many games. Today, they could not hit any of their jump shots and FTs. That cost them this game in which their defense gave them the opportunity to win. Not complaining about the win. The Oracle will take a tough road win at a hostile arena anyday. As an Aztec fan, the Oracle cannot complain about the win. Too many ticky tack calls in this game. But then again, MTN West refs are always that way.

I disagree So do I. Are you serious, Oracle? We played in front of 18K+ fans against a very good team playing for a chance to gain an at-large bid. And we did so without a single second of Tapley or Shelton. We showed brass balls. Foul trouble? Yeah, right.
