If all the super conference talk comes to fruition, here is the best case scenario you've read yet for the MWC ;D Assuming Tejas, Tejas Tech, OK, OK St to Pac 16, Big Hair proves more brain than hair and merges with what's left to form a Big Mountain 16 (you can quibble about a better name later).
BIG
TCU
New Mexico
Texas A&M
Baylor
Kansas
Kansas St
Missouri
Iowa St
MOUNTAIN
SDSU
UNLV
BYU
Utah
Air Force
Colorado St
Wyoming
Boise St
I think many of the schools on this last would be very happy with this set up, and the rest of them could live with it. The trick would be convincing Texas A&M and Utah not to jump ship. Now while both would make more money in a Pac 16 (Utes/Aggies) or SEC (Aggies), both of those schools would be buried in those conferences. How many conference championships would Utah or A&M win going against USC, UCLA, Texas, Oklahoma, and the rest of the 16? None. How many would A&M win in the SEC going against Florida, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, and the rest? None. Both schools would be in a much better position to thrive and dominate in the Big Mountain 16.
This grouping keeps the gang of 5 together and the 6 left out in the Big 12 together. They should be able to live with that.
This conference would be strong enough to warrant BCS / power / play-off caliber / whatever you want to call it conference. Here is the final AP basketball poll with these schools: Kansas (1), Kansas St (7), New Mexico (8), BYU (17), Baylor (19), Texas A&M (23), SDSU (RV), UNLV (RV). That's 1/4th of the Top 25 in basketball.
Here is the final AP football poll with these schools: Boise St (4), TCU (6), BYU (12), Utah (18), none receiving votes. That's 1/6th of the Top 25, all MWC schools. Maybe the leftovers of the Big 12, with none even receiving any votes, should pull their noses down from the sky and be begging to get into the MWC ;D
Glad I solved that for everyone. I am going to start working on world peace next ;D
