OK, things are getting a little crazy. There's a lot of speculation and misinformation sand the unknown.
The best case scenario would be: PAC 10/16.
However, just so we have a baseline, what would be the worst case scenario?
Please respond. Put your tongue in cheek if you like.
My worst case: we get left out of Big12/MWC reshuffle and get bounced to a watered down WAC (no Boise St.). SDSU then becomes the big fish in the Wacky pond.
However, it's a rocky road back to the WAC. Some members are disgusted that we worship the waves at SDSU.
With no BCS ties, the WAC will play the MAC in the revived California Bowl in Fullerton.
We renew rivalry with Fresno State. Even though they beat us sometime, we remind them that live in Fresno.
The point is SDSU would still be in the academics and athletic business.
Go Aztecs!

At the best, we end up in a BCS conf.
At the worst, we will still be in the top non BCS conf. The same as we are now. If it is called the MWC....so be it.....If it is called the WAC....so be it.....If it is called the NHC (New Hopeful Conf.)....so be it.
We will be no worse off than we are right now.

We sometimes forget our strong points.
-We're the only school in the MWC or Big 12 in California. That's attractive to others for recruiting.
-San Diego is the ninth biggest city in the nation. Our TV market is #28.
BTW, the next city we will pass to #8, probably in this census, is Dallas. Interesting....

State goes to the WAC and doesn't make a bowl game for another decade.

No one knows what the conference reshuffle will bring, but here is something to think about. Many are horrified by the thought of rejoining the WAC. Why should we assume that whatever conference we find ourselves in will be called the WAC? I would think that a new name would be chosen precisely for the reason that W A C is a tarnished, shop-worn moniker that has outlived its usefulness.
And that will happen, in my view, no matter what the members of the new conference may be. In any case, it will be up to SDSU to field the best, most competitive team possible. We must win regardless of our conference mates.

They know very well they could be possibly be out of fat BCS welfare money. no one is going to give that up without a fight. enter TCU/BYU/UTAH...one, two, or all three...they are all targets

The schools in the MAC, Conference USA, and the Sunbelt Conference are not burning up the national media with stories of their exploits, but they are holding their own. Maybe not by much, but they are surviving. I don't think that they will be any worse off it they are not invited to join the SEC 16, the Big-16, or whatever. And SDSU will end up, at the worst, in a conference better than the MAC or the SB. AzWm

It's all about leverage. With no real Football fan base to rely upon SDSU has very little leverage at the moment. Sunshine, pretty girls and nice beaches ain't going to cut it. This is why I have been saying for some time now that we don't have 5 years to build a program. Hoke and the boys need to win this year and we need 30,000+ at the games. We do that and we create a little leverage for ourselves before all is said and done. Best case scenario we end up in any BCS conference. Preferably the MWC with 12-14 members with inclusion of some big fish. ;D Worst case scenario we are in non-BCS conference with 4 large mega conferences dominating the landscape with no chance at BCS games. Unfortunately, there is a high probability of this doomsday scenario.
