Perfectly safe, right? Keep tasing those fans who run on the field, even if it means death (ive shown past stats). Today, another Mexican killed by border patrol agents was buried in San Diego. Anastasio Hernández, 42, died on 28 May after he was shocked with a stun gun at the San Ysidro border crossing that separates San Diego and Tijuana.www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/10/mexico-us-tensions-video-boy-shot

What stats? The stats that say 99% of people hit with a taser are fine after or the stat that says the people that do die after being hit with one are usually on some kind of drug or have some kind of medical condition?

I've got to agree with K5 on this one...
The guy was on meth - he did himself in.

I see. So if he had a medical condition instead of being on meth, it would still be okay that he died? =Bob

Simple fact is, the dudes heart popped because he was a full blown meth freak. Here's a simple solution to keep people from dying from taser applications....QUIT RESISTING ARREST. All the anti-taser people seem to think that officers are somehow superhero's that can quickly, and without harming, control a person who is actively resisting arrest. The chances of the officer getting hurt or killed skyrocket when they have to go hands on. When you remove the Taser as a less lethal tool, you leave the officer with very few choices to stop the escalation. Without taser, then you have 1) Flashlight to side of head, 2) carotid restraint (which has probably killed more people in one year than tasers have cumulatively) or 3) gun.

Stop trying to use common sense! I would prefer to go back to discussing the recreational tasing of unruly fans at Padres games.

Don't resist and you won't be tased. The guy was as high as a kite while breaking the law entering the country illegally.

I got no problem with tasers. They're quite useful. I just don't think they need to be used on dumbass kids running around in circles on the outfield. Sure, the kid was breaking the law, but the punishment should fit the crime. If the kid had died, the outrage would have been severe. An officer should have to feel that a persons is in danger of being harmed from offenders actions to use the weapon. The kid not only was NOT running at players, it was pretty clear he was just being a jaggoff. No aggression whatsoever. Just poking fun at K5 from an old argument....but anyone who denies that tasers/stun guns, even when used AS INTENDED....on those who are not high on meth, or have a medical conditions, do not occasionally lead to death or permanent injury, is foolish. I have posted past proof, the stats are on the internet. I realize K5 is in law enforcement and has been jaded from dealing with criminals every day, I can understand that. I just don't like the "let's handle business, let the paramedics sort them out" mindset when it comes to youths at MLB ballparks.
