Thanks to all who have offered suggestions as to how we might improve AztecMesa. Here's an update which should clarify several issues.
(A) The board's name. At this time I don't think we (in this case "we" refers to Erik and me) want to change the name. I realize that some miss the old "AztecTalk" title, but we don't have the right to use it. Speaking purely for myself, I am partial to AztecMesa; well, I thought it up, so it's my baby, so to speak. I guess one could also say that AztecTalk is jinxed since it has come and gone so often!
I would like to shorten the name, and I think that is possible. My plan is to create www.aztecmesa.com. Anyone using that URL will automatically be redirected to the current site, www.aztecmesa.proboards.com
(B) The masthead (some use the term logo, but I think masthead is actually correct. Here is a definition of masthead from historicpages.com. . .
The top of Page One, where the title and vital information of the newspaper are printed. Occasionally embellished with attractive calligraphy or graphics, the more ornate mastheads are avidly sought as a popular collecting specialty.)
We are working on several ideas for a new one and will publish them for comment.
(C) Organization of the site. This issue seems to be of concern to many Aztec fans and I agree that some changes may be beneficial.
To understand what is possible in this are it's important to understand how Proboards.com works. Unlike AztecTalk.com (the last one), AztecMesa (and AztecTalk.org) supports only a partial hierarchical structure of sub-boards. Everything is listed right there on the first page. In the case of AztecMesa, there are 8 categories (I am using ProBoards terminology) . . .
Aztec Sports
College Sports
San Diego Sports
College Sports
Pro Sports
Off Topic
Politics
Forum Rules and announcements
Every category has at least one sub-category. These are called boards. . .
Example: San Diego Sports
...Chargers
...Padres
...High School Sports
Every category and board is listed on that first page. A user must click on the name of a board to access all that board's threads and responses. Clicking on the name of a category does nothing. Obviously, AztecTalk.com used a different provider that offers more options than does ProBoards. ProBoards has the great advantage of being free.
One thing we can do, and Erik already started this, is to consolidate the boards. For instance, I liked the idea of creating several political boards, each one dedicated to a particular field of interest (national, international, etc.). Perhaps it would be better to consolidate all political threads on one general political board. Such consolidation would certainly make the make site's main screen look less complicated.
Well, that's a lot of information to absorb. Give all this some thought and react as you see fit.
Thanks for your attention and patience.
